Scary and weird appendix coincidence
You may remember that my Mom went into hospital for a full hysterectomy a month or so ago. Well, when they operated the surgeon didn't like how her appendix looked and it was also removed. It turns out that she had a very rare tumor. It was not malignant but has to follow up with an oncologist as there is some residue in the colon. She ended up being in hospital for 2 weeks but she is home now and doing amazingly well. She's a really strong 74 y-o
Then, 10 days ago an older friend of ours in his 60's, who had lost weight and had a markedly swollen stomach went for a check up at the VA and they kept him in for tests. They removed 5 liters of fluid from his abdomen and after a week of testing diagnosed him with cancer of the appendix. Unfortunately, in his case, it has spread to the lining of his abdomen and he will have to have surgery and chemo. This is a very rare type of cancer. In my mother's case they discovered it because of her hysterectomy and from research I have done they say it is usually discovered when it has already spread to another area.
Now, for the last 2 days my boss has not been feeling well and he stayed home to go to the Dr. today. The Dr. was concerned that he might have appendicitis so he sent him to the ER for a CAT scan. Well, they saw something wrong near his appendix. It may be an inflammation from appendicitis or it may be his colon. They are performing surgery tomorrow. He and his wife are great people and I really hope it's something simple.
I can’t believe that in less than a month three people close to me have problems with their appendix – I always thought it usually caused problems in childhood! I just want to say that you should not ignore any warning signs that you may have. My boss just felt “off” but nothing in particular was hurting. Also, could I please ask for prayers for all three?

Wow, that is strange.
I've also hear that chronic back pain can be a sign of some types of cancer.
Definitely a lesson to pay attention to our bodies and be vigilant with doctors.
for all involved

Re: Scary and weird appendix coincidence
I took my dad to the ER with symptoms that resembled appendicitis and they discovered colon cancer. If anyone has severe, unusual pain, they should have it checked out ASAP. You never know what it could be.

Re: Scary and weird appendix coincidence
Well, I just heard from my bosses wife and he's in surgery right now. They don't think it's the appendix after all because the mass is showing too high. More than likely they'll remove a part of his colon.
He's only 44 and never sick. He is, however, always under a lot of stress at work and often skips meals.
