Scary incident at a pool party tonight- please reassure me.
We went to a pool party where there was a toddler pool. DH was SUPPOSED to be watching Eliza (16 months old) and I had Mads. DH was standing talking to someone and turned for a SECOND. I looked down at Eliza and she had fallen face forward in the pool and was struggling trying to get her face out of the water. I have no idea how long her face was under water but it couldn't have been longer than a few seconds.
She coughed HARD and sputtered for a minute or two and seemed/s OK- but I can't help but remember those stories about "dry drowning".
She's in bed now. This happend hours ago (about 3.5 hours ago at this point). She's OK, right?
The image of her facedown in the pool is permanently burned into my brain.

That must have been terrible for you! I'm so sorry. I do not have an answer for you as I've never heard of dry drowning but I'm sure going to google it now! I hope and I'm sure she's okay. And I hope that image does not stay with you.

I could KILL Dh for taking his eyes off her. I'm terrified she's going to die in her sleep.

I have no idea about the dry drowning- maybe call the emergency line at her ped's office? (I would warrant this an emergency- at least for piece of mind!)
I'm glad she's okay!

OMG Amy!!
I am sure she is fine. However, though I would NEVER try to scare you, but regarding the dry drowning, I just want you to be cautious
Here is the wiki link
If you google there are other links... it seems that if she had no other symptoms while awake she is most likely fine but I would keep an eye on her

OMG! how horrible that you saw it. It's so hard to keep on eye on your kids at a party.... So glad she is ok (I know nothing about dry drowning)

Re: Scary incident at a pool party tonight- please reassure me.
My heart just dropped reading this.
If I remember correctly the boy who died from dry drowning was very sleepy afterwards.
I am 1000% sure that she is ok, but I know I would be freaking out also, hell, I get nervous if the boys choke on a little water during bath time. Try not to worry though, she will be fine. So damn scary, thank god you saw her right away.

I am sure she is okay. I know I would be extremely upset too though. I am just a worrier though. Could you call your ped's emergency line just for peace of mind? I would do that.

Re: Scary incident at a pool party tonight- please reassure me.
I know how scary that can be. The same thing happened to me when my DD was also about 16 months old. The only difference was that it was ME who took my eyes off her. I was literally standing behind her and looked over for a SECOND to answer somebody and she fell. I looked down and it looked like she was sinking! I grabbed her up, etc. and she turned out OK. The most disturbing part was that there was a lifeguard JUST for that pool and she was the ONLY kid in there!! Even when she went down and I screamed the lifeguard did nothing!! Didn't even come over to see how she was!! My sister and her friend, on the side of the pool were laughing, thinking I was trying to teach her to swim...(they stopped laughing when they realized what happened though).
Bottom line, she was fine. I didn't know about dry drowning when that happened or else I would have been a nervous wreck just like you. As long as she seems ok she probably is, but as the others said, it doesn't hurt just to call the ped's office.
ETA: it just occurred to me that I'm responding in the middle of the night so you probably already called the ped or whatever you decided to do.
Anyway!

Re: Scary incident at a pool party tonight- please reassure me.
I'm sure she's fine, sorry that happened to you though
When I was 3, my mom was changing my brother's diaper, and I apparently jumped into the deep end (I do remember watching people swim and thinking it was easy).
Apparently a man saw me jump in and not come up, and dove in, and brought me to surface, they had to pump water out of my chest. I walked away fine...not until we came home did it hit my mom I could have died .
Glad that everything is ok
