Schedule Induction???
Hello Ladies I am 38 weeks pregnant. My doctor said at my last visit that when I am 39 weeks we could talk about an elective induction. I wanted to know what people thought about this. This is my first pregnancy.

Re: Schedule Induction???
I did it for my first birth. It was GREAT since we live out of NY....visits were planned, DH knew when to take off from work and it was a pleasant experience.

Re: Schedule Induction???
I think its a personal decision. I didnt find anything comfortable about being induced. I was a week late and had complications, thats the only reason why i was induced. Im hoping i go on my own with this one, i want to labor at home in my own comfortable enviroment for as long as possible.

Re: Schedule Induction???
Personally, If I had that option, I would decline. Induction can be a long, drawn out painful process. If you have the choice to wait to go into labor on your own, I would recommend that.
A failed induction will lead to a C-Section...and they give those out like candy! I would wait it out until 40 weeks, see how you go on then.
Just my opinion. I completely agree with ArielsMom, my induction was 3 days of labor followed by a a nice birthing experience...but I wish I had waited at home, relaxing

Re: Schedule Induction???
It is a personal decision but I didn't want to unless it was medically necessary. I wound up being 5 days date. I went into labor at night of my 4th day. I made my wishes known to my Dr. and we didn't even discuss induction.

Re: Schedule Induction???
I would not do it unless you are really late or it is medically needed. I think it is best to let your body tell you when it is time.

Totally agree.
My sister was induced with her 2nd six days before her due date for no "good" reason. It went really well and I have to admit, it seemed kind of nice to arrange for babysitting for her son and also, not to have any pain at all...but it just doesn't seem right to me for some reason.
It's a non-issue for me since I can never be induced, but I refuse to even schedule a repeat c/s unless it's medically necessary.
JMO...good luck with whatever you decide!

Re: Schedule Induction???
I was induced at 6 days late since my doctors practice doesn't believe in letting you go more than 1 week late (not sure why). I was progressing naturallly (60% effaced and 2 cm dilated when induced) so I think that was one of the factors I had such a smooth induction.
I preferred to go on my own, but it didn't seem likely to happen. I was very nervous that it would lead to a c-section, but thankfully that didn't happen.
I would try to go on your own first...then if you need to be induced for medical reasons of course do it

Re: Schedule Induction???
Thank you everyone. It has been helpful. I am not going to do the induction unless I have to for medical reasons.

ITA! I've had an induction and have gone natural. I would definitely prefer natural.

Re: Schedule Induction???
I am scheduling an induction during my 39th week due to medicine that I have to take. An induction makes it easier to determine when I need to stop taking my medicine.

Re: Schedule Induction???
obviously a very personal choice..
but I had a scheduled induction and it was great, wouldn't want it any other way..will have a repeat this year..
I personally am one of those women who does not care to "experience" trying to push a baby out for hours
