scheduling c-section - weekday vs. weekend

yesterday at 38 weeks, 3 days Chat Icon weighed in at 8-8 1/2 pounds Chat Icon.

if i do not progress in the coming days we may have to go in and get her Chat Icon.

my mother had suggested scheduling the c-section on a weekday vs. a weekend because on weekends hospitals tend to work with a skeleton crew. i hadn't even thought about this, and am wondering what the other c-section ladies have planned...

Re: scheduling c-section - weekday vs. weekend

I don't know of all hospitals, but I do know that the one my mother and cousin are nurses for, alternate weekends. So staffing is the same with full time nurses.

My mother's tip to anyone going into the hospital is just make sure you have a stream of visitors. Staff is much more likely to ignore those who are solo in the room.

good luck!

I don't know about any big differences in staff but you will probably have more visitors if you have a c-section on a weekend only because of the work week.

i'm telling everyone NOT to visit me in the hospital because i want privacy with DH and my side of the family. i have faith in DH though, he's a baby, he can demand a lot of attention if need be... Chat Icon

I didn't schedule my c-section...but when my son was born it was a wednesday....and we both had wonderful care. I honeslty didn't notice any less staff on the weekend though...I didn't leave until Sunday.

I had my c-sect on a tuesday, came home on saturday. I liked that because when I came home, my parents, in laws were off. ALso, poeple only came at night to visit in the hospital because they had to work and I got to rest without 4,000 people barging in all day.

I had mine on a Wed. and came home on a Sunday. Both the weekday & weekend staff were great! The LC's were not there over the weekend, so I was thankful that I had Thursday and Friday with the LC's.

Re: scheduling c-section - weekday vs. weekend

I would schedule for the weekday....just so that when you get home, the weekend will be there and you DH and parents and whoever else is there, will have plenty of time to re-coup before DH has to go back to work. You will be able to establish a routine of some sort before you are on your own (so to speak).

PS. If you would like visitors...Regina and I have already spoken about coming to visit you whenever you tell us it's ok Chat Icon

I had my son on a Friday and had excellent care all weekend long. The good thing about a weekend is that your DH can use more of his leave time for when you are home with the babyChat Icon

I know it is confusing. Plus this time I already know I am having a c-section and in my mind I have it all scheduled for a paticular date so that we have the Thanksgiving holiday in there and he can stay home even longer but you know it won't work out the way I want it toChat Icon

Re: scheduling c-section - weekday vs. weekend

wait until the last possible day..to give yourself time to go into labor and go on a non-holiday weekday. Holidays means that LCs may be off as does weekends.

Most people schedule for the weekend so their DH can be with them for the first few days. Actually Friday is the big day from what I have heard.

How long is DH taking off to stay home with you?

he has 5 consecutive paternity leave days, and may tack on a day or 2 after (or work from home). so depending on when we schedule, a lot of time could be spent in the hospital vs. at home.

in july or august he'll take another 2 weeks (company requires employees to take 2 consecutive weeks of vacation a year), and then the remaining days we'll reserve for the holidays or anything else that comes up.

he has a lot of time accrued, it's just never "a good time" for work to take it Chat Icon

Re: scheduling c-section - weekday vs. weekend

hmmm...that's a tough call. If you go earlier in the week, you know that there will be a LC for you at the hospital...but DH will spend his time off with you at the hospital, rather than at home. But, your mom will be with you, so you won't be alone at home.

Grrr...I can see your dilema...sorry, I'm not much help Chat Icon
