School Admittance - without vaccination records
I have a friend at work who chooses not to vaccinate her kids. We don't share similar views on the subject, so we don't really talk about it.
She enrolled her daughter in Kindergarten. I'm curious how would one go about school enrollment without vaccination records? I thought to vaccinate was the law and vaccination's records are required, but I guess not. Did she have to claim religious beliefs or something?

I believe you would have to claim some kind of religious belief with some kind of documentation to get out of the vaccine requirement for school.

School Admittance - without vaccination records
Unfortunately (and I am not expert) people can get exemptions (based on the state you are in) for religious reasons.
So my GUESS is she will have a religious exemption....or whatever NY state allows.
There are kids who cant get vaccinations for some reasons (immune compromised, allergy, etc).
I feel bad for her kids. I feel bad for all the other children the parent is putting at risk.
In the past 2 years I got all my boosters up to date. With so many people not vaccinating their kids its truly a disaster in the making. I wanted to make sure that *I* am protected when the shizz starts to hit the fan.
I encourage all adults to ask your doctors about getting tested for all the vaccination you are supposed to have. That way you can also be protected if/when whopping cough, measles etc starts its comeback.
Whopping cough is SUCH a concern now that its recommended that all new moms, fathers and anyone close the baby (grandparents, caregivers) get the booster. So many people are not immune and infants are very susceptible.
And its something that is easily preventable.

I wonder about that too....I also have a friend who won't have her kids vaccinated and the oldest is starting Kindergarten this Sept. I assumed she is going the religious exemption route, but they are Catholic and child is going to a Catholic school, so not sure how that works since us Catholics believe in vaccinations!

See, that is ridiculous. IMO there are way too many loop holes in the vaccination requirements. They really need to start cracking down.

I believe in NYS it is up to the school's discretion whether they will allow for religious exemptions. I don't think they are required to admit a child without vaccinations based on religious beliefs.
I could be wrong though.

This. My mom manages a pediatric office and the state allows for it. Lots of states are no longer permitting exceptions (except for immunocompromised, etc) and that's what will happen in NY in the near future.
We all know how that's going to go.....all of a sudden half the kids in Brooklyn will be immunocompromised and some quack doctor will sign for them. Sickening.

My sister doesn't vaccinate. She lives in another state, but she claims religious exemption. She has been challenged by the school before about it, but they allowed the kids to remain.

My kids go to catholic school and they will NOT let you in without your medical form up to date. I had to run to the nurse on my DD's first day of school because I hadn't mailed it in.

Technically they aren't allowed unless they claim religious exemption. However, I believe when you claim that you have to have the child's doctor sign something as well as get a signed document from your priest/pastor (or whoever) as well.

Since Catholics don't have a "religious" stance on vaccines, this makes 100% total sense! Unfortunately the public school has no idea what anyone's religion is, and if they really are part of said religion.

School Admittance - without vaccination records
My primary doctor insisted I get a Pertussis vaccination last year as she had been seeing so many adults getting Whooping Cough, probably because so many kids have not been inoculated against it.
