School Drop-Off/Pick-up
I still have another year, but am planning ahead.
Who drops of your child at school and picks them up?
I don't know how I am going to do this because of my work schedule (I'm a teacher and teach an early class and get out later than most school DS would go to.) I do the daycare/preschool drop off and pick up and don't know how I feel about not doing it. I know my DS would adjust but I'm still terrified at the fact that I'm not going to be there. I know - sounds weird.

Does your school have before and after care?

Re: School Drop-Off/Pick-up
Many districts have SCOPE before and after care. It's usually at the same building or kids are bused to a different building in the district.
If that's not early enough for you, if your daycare is within the district,, you may be able to have them take a bus from/to there (this is more difficult if you have separate elementary schools - then the center has to be within your elementary's border)

Re: School Drop-Off/Pick-up
I'm actually in Queens. Some of the schools I am looking to send DS have before and aftercare, but I'm not sure if the before care is early enough. I would have to then see about my DD and her daycare dropoff.

Re: School Drop-Off/Pick-up
A good portion of my neighbors and friends are teachers. Some use SCOPE. I have one friend whose husband owns his own business, so he arranged his schedule so he could do drop off.. she is early enough to do pick up. Another couple works it out so the father (who has a traditional job) does the early morning before school drop off and the wife picks up. Outside of that, you can ask neighbors with similar aged children or family members. There is also the option of looking for an in home sitter.
Trust me.. I fret about this stuff all the time. I am NOT a teacher and I used to spend a lot o ftime wondering how I would deal with spring break, winter recess, the inordinate number of holiday days off.. but it works out. I don't know how, but it always seems to just work out.

Ds goes to private school but they have a before and after care available. you pay extra if you need it but I think it covers the hours of 7am-6pm

Re: School Drop-Off/Pick-up
We drop the boys off at before/after care near our train station. They take and pick up the boys from school.
When they are old enough to be home alone in the morning for an hour we'll probably let them catch the school bus that picks up at the corner.

Re: School Drop-Off/Pick-up
Seems like all the kids in the early drop off program at dd's school are teachers children.
