Scott Kelby's Third Annual Worldwide Photowalk
Any other LIF Photographers doing Scott Kelby's photowalk in July? I did it last year and it was a lot of fun. I'm signed up for this year - doing the Staten Island walk - here's the description, sounds like it will be full of some good photo ops. There are several in the NY/NJ/LI area but some are already full so don't delay if you see one that interests you.
We will walk along the working waterfront of Staten Island…the Kill Van Kull. Common sights are large Container Ships and Oil Tankers, and of course lots of Tugboats. Passing the SI Yankees Baseball Stadium and the Postcards 911 Memorial the walk will continue west along Bank St to Richmond Terrace. On the Terrace there are many old factory building, a large Produce market, Leidy’s Tavern, the oldest family operated tavern on Staten Island…Madonna filmed the Telephone Booth scene for one of her videos here. Law and Order has also filmed scenes along this route many times. Continuing west is Snug Harbor Cultural Center, a former home to old seaman, now an Arts Center, is considered the finest example of Greek revival architecture in America. About an 1/8th mile from here is the end of our walk where we will meet at RH Tugs Restaurant. Tugs has an outdoor terrace so we can take in and photograph more of the waterfront while we have some lunch.
Edited to add link Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photowalk

I looked at the website a few weeks ago. There seems to be one that starts in in Northport but it wasn't very clear. Do you know anything about that one?

Re: Scott Kelby's Third Annual Worldwide Photowalk
I'm glad to see this post finally got a response! I was thinking "this is why we don't have a photography forum - lots of views but not a lot of comments."
There are two in Long Island that I see listed so far. One in Northport, from 1:00 - 3:00 and another in Greenport from 10:00 - 1:00. The leader of each photowalk picks the location and time (usually 2 - 3 hours) and usually lists an itinerary of where the walk will start and end. It sounds like the Northport walk will be the village and some access to private gardens and yards.
I chose the Staten Island one because I wanted to venture away from LI since I already take a lot of photos here, and I have way to many flower and garden pictures already. I figured it would give me more variety. It's a fun experience, no matter which one you choose.
Last year I did one at Jones Beach - here's the link to some of the shots I took. Jones Beach Photowalk - 2009

Wow, I would never get photos like that (or at least I do not feel that I would learn to do that between now and July) but I'd consider trying out one of these walks.

Thanks for the compliment! The photowalks are definately fun. It's more social then educational but if you decide to try the walk I'm doing I'll be happy to give you tips.

How experienced should you be to take a tour? I would love to do this but don't want to embarrass myself with lack knowledge

Re: Scott Kelby's Third Annual Worldwide Photowalk
They encourage all levels from beginners on up. I just had a message from our leader encouraging anyone with any type of equipment from point and shoot or disposables to DSLR's were welcome to join. Most of the photographers will probably have DSLR's but not all, and you definately should not feel embarrased if you're interested. It is not a teaching situation however, it's a social occasion with some loose direction in where the walk goes. If you have a specific question on how to do something then you can ask any of the walkers, but it's not something where the leader will say "try this" and you're expected to know what he's talking about. The website has a video that explains it a bit more.

Thank you. I think I might go on one.

Re: Scott Kelby's Third Annual Worldwide Photowalk
KLSBear...did you make it to the walk? How did it go? Would love to see some pictures if you want to share.
Knowing how hot it was going to be yesterday, I did't sign up. I knew I would have been miserable.

Re: Scott Kelby's Third Annual Worldwide Photowalk
It was HOT!!! but we had a lot of fun. I was a bit disappointed in my shots, I think I was a bit distracted by the heat and having a friend along, but I'm sure I'll get some good images after I do some processing. I also sell work on the microstock sites and I found some good "background" shots - rough concrete, peeling paint, etc. When I get the processing done I'll post a few.
Here's the link to the Worldwide Photo Walk Flickr Group
And here is the link to the Flickr group for Staten Island photo walk Not too many pics posted yet but it will probably grow.
