Scrapbooking 101
After a close friend taught an enrichment class for me; I got intrigued about the whole scrapbooking craze. I proceeded to Michaels on the way home & bought over $100 worth of "stuff."
I plan on making DD a book of her 3rd-4th year, starting w/ her 3rd birthday.
My q is, where do I start?
What do I truly need?
Can someone explain the sizzix machine & how the brads are used & such.
What are some good sites for layouts, etc?
Thx so much.

Re: Scrapbooking 101
I would start with just the basics - a good paper trimmer, adhesive (it's a personal preference - I do not recommend the square adhesives, the little paper tabs get everywhere)..
It's very easy to get svcked in by all the stuff!!! Try not to be overwhelmed by it all.
There is a great book you can get at Michaels or AC Moore - Cherish - it's got a blue cover - lots of great layout ideas with dimensions and everything. Don't forget your coupons in the Sunday paper.
Sizzix - makes die cuts of different shapes, letters, etc. out of paper, cardstock and a bunch of other things. The Cricut does the same thing - but it's electronic. I wouldn't get involved in these things unless you know you are going to totally get into scrapbooking, it's an investment and gets $$ quickly.
Brads - easy to use - you punch a hole, push the brad through and separate the little tabs in the back.
The great thing about scrapbooking is that if you get into it, it's easy to make your own cards - you have all the supplies already - no need to buy additional supplies.
Check out your local Adult Ed classes in your school district. Lots of them offer Scrapbooking classes, it's a great way to meet people and get new ideas.
Good luck! And enjoy!

Re: Scrapbooking 101
Here is a list of "essentials" of scrapbooking.
I don't agree entirely with this list. For example - I never use liquid adhesive remover or stitch on my pages. I think distressing is "advanced" and only started using that technique recently. I use a metal cork backed ruler when needed, but have only used a centering ruler once or twice. I have never used staples to adhere anything to a page.
As for where to start . . . start wherever you want, with whatever picture inspires you to begin.
Basics:
Pictures - first and foremost Concept - what do you want the page to convey Colors - what colors do you want to use to convey the concept Embellishments - decorations to put on page
To help develop your concept you can use a Title, Journalling, and Borders.
