Secrets Capri Riviera Maya or Excellence Punta Cana...
Has anyone ever been to either? Trying to decide between Punta Cana and Riviera Maya for a getaway at the end of the year. Thanks in advance!

I haven't been to either one, so take this for what it's worth—but my cousin is a supervisor with Liberty Travel and she gets nothing but raves on Secrets Capri Riviera Maya. All her clients who go there, LOVE it. She has totally convinced me to make this my next all-inclusive.

Thank you so much. After reading a ton of reviews on trip advisor that is what I am leaning towards. Just want to chill out for a few days and that looks like the perfect place!

We were looking at both places just this week and decided on Excellence in Punta Cana. We're going in Jan.

Re: Secrets Capri Riviera Maya or Excellence Punta Cana...
My husband and I went to Secrets Capri Riviera Maya last year, we had a really great tiime. The hotel is beautiful, the pool was great. We didn't go into the beach water because the waves were pretty rough. They have alot of daily activities near the pool and always had something going on at night, concerts, shows, karoake.
They had different restaurants so you could eat at different places everyday. They had an Italian, Japanese, seafood and american style restaurant. The food was good. You just have to make sure to make reservations because some of the restaurants got booked and we had to wait awhile.
They also had alot of excursions that they helped you plan and left from there. We did the swim with the dolphins and that was amazing, we actually got to swim with them in the ocean.
The staff was terrific, especially the entertainment staff, they were so friendly.
I would definitely recommend going there.

We felt the same way too at first - like - why are we going to ASP when we could go back to EDR - there were some things I liked better about EDR but I think more I liked better about ASP to be completely honest. Like the things I like better about EDR - more luxurious surroundings -didn't matter as much to me as the things I liked better about ASP - much better pool situation - much bigger pools - even when people go out and put towels out really early - there's still plenty of room -and we were there CHristmas week , I would think it's never going to be more crowded than that! I also liked that you could just go to dinner wherever and whenever - no reservations, no having to decide 4 nights ahead of time where you wanted to eat and be locked into a time...

Yeah the reservations are a PITA. Ok ASP is higher on the list. Is it as secluded as EDR? How was the food and service compared to EDR?

Re: Secrets Capri Riviera Maya or Excellence Punta Cana...
I don't know what you really mean by secluded, it's very big - at first I thought I wasn't going to like that, but it really didn't bother me. Restaurants are really good - of course, everyone has their personal favorites - we loved one of the restaurants, El Greco..We also liked the japanese/sushi place a lot - one night we went there for appetizers and then to dinner somewhere else - lol - you can do that there, which is cool! They also have really good buffets that stay open late.
Service is really good, just like EDR - again, not as luxurious as EDR, room a lot smaller - but how much time are you really in the room - there is still a jacuzzi in the room and there is also a liquor dispenser!!

Liquor and a jacuzzi - what else do you need?
By secluded I mean not close to other hotels and random people don't walk on the beach. Loved that about EDR. It was like its own little world.

Then by your definition, it was definitely secluded!
