Security Systems...

I'll be updating on a separate post about the robbery...

But, which home security company does everyone prefer?

We are choosing between Brinks Security and CPI?

Any thoughts?

Re: Security Systems...

We have Brinks..... The previous owners had just purchased a 3yr contact and we were able to take it over as part of the purchase.

We had one incident where I didn't turn off the alarm in time when coming in and they immediately called to make sure everything was OK.

I think thats a scare tactic slomins uses (although I pulled out my contract & couldn't find the part about the lien). We just made changes to our deed & were looking into refinancing & I didn't see anything about a lien anywhere.
I know they made us show paperwork proving we own the house & were not tenants.
We choose slomins because in July 05 when we signed with them they offered the most oil/security services for the lowest price.

Re: Security Systems...

So how much are people paying here for their systems?

Did you pay an install fee? Do you just have doors covered? What about windows as well? Smoke detectors? Wireless?

Re: Security Systems...

I have a wireless system through ADT:

- 5 door sensors
- 4 motion detectors (2 main floor, 1 basement, 1 upstairs)
- Three Smoke/CO detectors

Cost is about $30/month. The smoke detectors added a couple bucks to the monthly bill.

In our old condo, we had window sensors. Being that my new house has over 30 windows, I didn't want to break the bank.

Cost of installation was a couple of hundred bucks - they had a promotion. If you are a AAA member, you can get a discount through them as well for the install.

Re: Security Systems...

We have ADT. We got 3 door sensors, 1 motion detector, 2 fire/CO detectors, 6 window sensors, a glass breakage receiver, a remote control for the keychain, the keypad, and a cell phone back-up system. We pay $42 a month because of the cell phone back-up system ($8) extra a month. We got the cell phone system because we have the optimum voice system for our home phone and if the power goes out, the alarm system can't transmit the signal to the monitoring station. What made us go with ADT is that they have several monitoring stations around the country and if one of the stations can't receive signals, the signals are automatically re-routed to a different station, without us needing to do anything, or even knowing about it. For example, when we had the big blackout in August 2 years ago, no signals could be sent to Slomins because their only monitoring station is in Hicksville and with no power, they couldn't get any transmissions.
