Re: Seeing baby for first time
Yes, they would. It's kind of an extreme precaution not to allow visitors for 2 months (which is when the babies will get their shots), but to each their own!

Re: Seeing baby for first time
I'm not sure if I agree that the shots would really prevent against germs.
The 2 month shots are for very specific things:
Rotavirus vaccine Diphtheria, tetanus and acellular pertussis (DTaP) Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) Inactivated poliovirus (IPV)
So, the baby is protected from whooping cough, polio, etc. but I don't think they would prevent the baby from getting common cold germs or, say, salmonella, or other infections not related to the shots.
I consider myself a VERY cautious mom in the beginning and only let immediate family (my mom, DH's mom) hold the baby after thoroughly washing their hands.
I think not allowing visitors at all is probably on the more extreme end of the spectrum but every parent has to do what makes them comfortable.

Re: Seeing baby for first time
Wow, I allowed people over after only 2 days. They just had to wash hands before touching. Of course to each their own but wow theyre going to get extremely lonely

Re: Seeing baby for first time
My ped recommends not taking babies out in public for at least 2 months. I guess the parents in this case are following similar advice. I know 2 months is a long time and it was very hard to do, but we did it. DS was our first, my DH gets home pretty early, and we worked it out. I wouldn't judge someone who takes a newborn out sooner (or has visitors over sooner).... whatever works for the parents.
