Seizures in dogs...
My parents lab mix has been having seizures..My dad says it has been happening once every 2-3 months for the last 2 years, and she really just falls limp and is disorented for about 10-20 minutes, then is fine. Well she had another one Friday night, my dad said he woke up and she had fallen off the bed. He said this one was really bad, she was out of it for a long time, he carried her down stairs and then after an hour she popped up and ran all around the back yard. He took her to the vet Saturday morning and she check out fine, and the blood test they did were all negative. But my mom said she has been sleeping all the time since Sat. They said she was sleeping under a bush for 4 hours in the rain, until my dad finally carried her in. My sister said she didn't even respond to her when she walked into the house, usually she is the welcoming committee....I am just really nervous, Hope is about 8-9 years old...the only thing I can think of why she has been sleeping so much is because they actually gave her, her shots since she was way behind, but would that cause her to be out of it for 3 days?? Does anyone have experience with dog seizures?
eta: Hope is the black dog in my pic... She is my dad's best friend, they go for 2 hour walks everyday, he would be lost without her....Hope's my dad's only escape from my mom!!

Could be something with the kidneys, liver, diabetes, or could just be epilepsy. I would definately go for a second opinion. Something has to be causing the poor thing to seizure.

Re: Seizures in dogs...
Make sure they check out heart issues. My dog had heart disease and suffered what looked like seizures, but was syncope due to the heart disease.

Re: Seizures in dogs...
My Golden Retriever growing up had epilepsy. She had to take a pill everyday to prevent them and that helped. They were few and far between for the rest of her life , the medication really did work
If its not epiliepsy, something has to be causing that. Maybe shes dehydrated??? But maybe a second opinion wouldnt be a bad idea

Re: Seizures in dogs...
Have they checked her for Lymes Disease?
I know my SIL's dog has a form of a seizure with Lymes. She is on medication so she won't have the seizures now

Re: Seizures in dogs...
It can be a few thinkg most commonly epilepsy, or a brain tumor. you can manage the seizures with medication like phenobarbitol or valium what ever you vet likes to use. And you can get an MRI done to check for a tumor. they have an mri machine at long island veterinary specialist, or a cat scan would show it too.. but if shes having seizures alot and for a long time you should get atleast some kind of medication to leessen them.. Its not good to keep having prolonged seizures... is she having any behavorial changes?
