Selden, Medford?
I've seen a bunch of affordable houses in this area. What are these towns like? Are there any sections that I should stay away from?

Re: Selden, Medford?
I believe Selden has some really nice areas as well as some not so good areas. IMO the area will eventually be turning over. A lot of younger people are moving there. BUT it is longwood SD which isn't a favorable thing. And some of the areas there i REALLY DO NOT like.

I agree, Selden has alot of good areas and a few not so good areas but it is on the upswing. Most of Selden is in Middle Country School District though not longwood.
Medford is in the same boat as Selden, some great areas (absolutely beautiful) and some not so great. I think the school districts for Medford are Patchougue Medford/Longwood/and a little bit of Sachem.

Re: Selden, Medford?
Old Medford is a very nice area. We looked at a few homes in Old Medford but it was a little too far for us....we both commute into NYC

Re: Selden, Medford?
I really don't know a lot about the area, but we are going to contract on a home in Medford. We felt that the combo of affordable home, low taxes and a decent school district were enough to make us go for that area. I was afraid of Longwood SD myself though, so when we were looking we stayed in the Sachem/Patchogue-Medford districts.
Good luck!!!

Re: Selden, Medford?
I have a home in Old Medford. I love the area and although the school district right now is having major issues, I believe it will turn around because it has in the past. I am also a graduate of Pat-Med. Selden, I don't know much about. I have friends that live there and they have a beautiful home. I agree both areas are about the same. It just depends on the area. Hope that helps.

Both areas are hit and miss. Like anywhere, it's location, location, location.

Kathleen -that would be so nice if we could be neighbors
If you see any for sale signs in the neighborhood, send them my way! We originally wanted to stay in Nassau, but it's so freakin' expensive and the taxes
Since I work in Bay Shore and the FH travels around LI and sometimes into the city we are thinking about move east.

Sure, I can let you know.. Just let me know exactly what your looking for.
1. Ranch, Hi-Ranch, Colonial, etc.
2. on a side street, on a main neighborhood Rd, etc.

Basically anything as far a house type, I don't want to get my heart set on having say a hi-ranch and get something different. We want at least 2 bedrooms, hopefully 2 baths but the 2 baths not necessary.
We would prefer to not be on a main road with tons of traffic.
We are looking for something that may not be in the best condition so we can fix it up and make it our own. Although if it's a steal for a move right in type of place, we may not pass it up! Something w/ potential for an aparment would be nice too, but not necessary!

Taxes aren't exactly low out here!
Depends on the house I think..
My mothers house all the way in Hampton Bays, she only pays somewhere between 3-4,000! Which I find cheap, I pay moooore than my mom..
Very true - I thought you meant the Selden/Medford areas.

Re: Selden, Medford?
Definitely chekc out which school district you are in before you buy there...they are both good in some areas and not so good in others....but don't count it out if you like them, check it out!
