Selling our home next Spring. Where and when do we start??

We are starting the process of selling and buying next Spring. Not sure where we should start. Can anyone recommend any realtors in the south shore Nassau area? We had a hard time finding a good realtor the first time around and we will need a good one especially now since we need to sell no matter what it takes.....We will be buying off Long Island. What are the first things we should do?How do I find out how much equity I have on my home? We are totally clueless.
