Sentimental baby gifts
I posted on crafts as well and only got one response. I figured maybe more people would see this here and have some ideas.
We just got some great news my brother and sis n law are having a baby. We had a real rough month as my dad has recently passed. What I wanted to know is if anyone had any sentimental creative ideas that i could give the baby from my dad. I heard of making a blanket out of the persons clothes...which I find really neat. How do you go about doing this? Also any additional thoughts/ ideas would be so greatly appreciated! TIA

Re: Sentimental baby gifts
That would be like a patchwork quilt. You would need a backing and then sew on all the different patches of clothing-you'd have to be careful if it was for a baby though-no denim, etc.-I think its a good idea though-heres a link I found that may help you: How to make a patchwork quilt

If you can't do it yourself, here's a place that does it: http://www.lifequilt.com/html/flashSite.html
You may want to shop around for the best prices. I'm sure there are a bunch of places out there...I just happened to know both Karin & Jen Cook from high school.

They also have the quilts that you can put pics on. Maybe get some pics together of your dad, and make a quilt wiht his pics. OR, did he wear any jewelry? Maybe a cross? That would be something nice to present at the christening. Maybe a pic of your dad with a nice poem to hang in the baby's nursery?

Re: Sentimental baby gifts
What about a collage of pictures to hang on the wall ? They sell frames that are cut out in the word FAMILY. each letter holds another picture

Thats really a great idea about the collage BUT I have no pics of my sis n laws family. that would so not go over well if I gave them a baby collage of my family ; )

Re: Sentimental baby gifts
I think a beautiful gift would be this:
It is from Red Envelope. The sliver cup says "Baby" on it. I think that would be so meaningful...planting a tree to commerate the new life and the passing of your dad.
