One of my very best friends gave me my fav gift at my shower. It was a personal cookbook she made on one of the photo websites. Did an appetizer and on that page took pics of us when we were living together eating some apps... then a few cocktail recipes and pics of us out and pics with me and DH, dinner ideas then pics with me, DH and our families, etc. I love those type of personal things

It was so cute... I bought a book stand and keep it on my kitchen counter. Get so many compliments. She did a mix of pics of me and friends, me and DH and both of our families. The dessert one was something like a Grand Slam Sundae and she had pics of me and DH when we were refs at a Halloween party and the cocktail recipe of us drinking at a bar with friends and one of DH and I toasting the night we got engaged. I didn't know, but DH helped her out with this and sent her a lot of the pics

Someone gave me a Lenox nativity set for a wedding gift. I love it and remember them fondly everytime I take it out.

Have you been on Etsy.com? I have found so many personal and cool gifts on there this year.
I got the girls in my family photo pendants this year- its a scrabble tile with the photo imbedded. They are adorable!

Re: Sentimental Gift for a Bride from her MOH
Do you live anywhere near Port Jefferson ?
At the Christmas Shop down port, they have this really cool poem for a bride to be with a list of ornaments for the new couple to put on their first tree, each symbolizing different things ( home, health, fertilty etc...) You can buy an ornament for each symbol and put it in a pretty box along with the poem...If I can find the poem, I'll post it for you !
I was a MOH and gave this to my friend and she was in tears !!!!
ETA-
They actually sell one already made ( but its a bit $$)...But here is the link, that shows you the ornaments you would use
http://marriage.about.com/od/christmas/qt/bridestree.htm
------------------------------------------------ A lovely tradition from Germany is the Bride's Tree. It is believed that a couple's Christmas tree needs twelve specific ornaments for happiness in their life journey together. The Twelve Bride's Tree Ornaments and What They Symbolize:
A Fish represents Christ's blessing, as well as fertility.
A Teapot represents hospitality.
A Bird symbolizes joy, happiness, and the Holy Spirit. If the bird is in a nest then it represents confidence in the cottage or home.
An Angel or Church is a symbol of God's guidance.
A Rabbit reflects hope and peace with nature.
A Fruit Basket symbolizes generosity and plenty.
A Heart is a symbol of true love and love in the home.
A Pine Cone represents fruitfulness, eternity, motherhood, and fertility.
A Flower Basket symbolizes good wishes or beauty in the home.
A Rose is a symbol of affection and of the Virgin Mary. A yellow rose symbolizes faithfulness in the marriage.
A House represents protection or family shelter.
A Santa is a symbol of goodwill, giving and sharing.
More ornament suggestions:
A glass Carrot represents good luck in the kitchen.
A Star symbolizes guidance.
A Boat is representative of a couple sailing across the waters of life, both rough and smooth.
Colored balls symbolize the diversity of our world.
Paper chains or garlands show that we're all bound together.
Lights show how the love of God is reflected in a couple's love for one another.
The glass Pickle is supposed to be the last ornament hung on the tree - and hidden by parents. The child who discovered the pickle ornament would receive a special gift from St. Nicholas for being so observant.
A Grape is a symbol of friendship or of sharing a glass of wine.
A Bell represents joy and merriment
