Seriously on edge, totally stressed
Trying to think where to start ... I work in the city and DH works from home usually 3 days a week and the other two days he's in the city with clients (usually set, can't cancel at the last minute things).
Ann is in daycare and while she's pretty much had a runny nose since she started, she never really (KNOCK ON WOOD) gets anything more serious that has been reported in any of the rooms. I, on the other hand, have been sick on antibiotics & steroids since the beginning of February I tested positive last week for something on the throat culture (not strep but I can't remember what it was). Both courses of medds are up in a few days and I know I am nowhere near "cured".
I've taken a more sick time from work than I have (partly because in the first week of January Ann did have a fever for a few days and daycare doesn'ttake them with fever so I had to stay home).
Last night while trying to feed Ann dinner, she threw up pretty much everything in her stomach since the morning (I could tell based on what came up). But even as she was still vomitting, she was smiling. I was able to give her a few ounces of formula with no issue a few hours later and she actually fell asleep on the bottle.
Anyway, I know I'm all over the place & rambling but we took her to daycare today since she seemed fine this morning (it is totally possible the vomit was from a new food). But if she was still sick this morning and DH couldn't get out of his appts, we would have been stuck (I was out sick three days last week ). We have no family near us who could take her in an emergency. I don't know anyone who stays at home and even if I did, I can't imagine a SAHM would want to take my sick kid. I just don't know what to do or how to find someone for a situation like this (where it could be last minute).
Oh well, even if you have no advice but made it this long, thanks for reading!

Re: Seriously on edge, totally stressed
I've been in similar situations, having twins in daycare who get sick quite frequently. I have learned to say "my kids come first and if I need to be home with them, so be it" and try NOT to feel guilty when I have to either leave work early or stay home with them. STUFF HAPPENS and if your job gets nasty, $crew them. You have NO CHOICE. I know the guilty feelings, believe me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think every working mom has been in the place where you are at some point. It is so hard, and I can definitely commiserate with having no family able or willing to help.
I don't really have any advice, but you will get through this and

I have no advice. But we are in the same situation- long commutes, no family nearby to help us out. I hope Ann has a good day.

Re: Seriously on edge, totally stressed
I hear ya!!! Sophia has been in daycare since the first week of January, and has another cold -- ANOOOTHER cold. Knock on wood, this one isnt bad. Not like the TWO she had back-to-back in Feb that had us at the Ped 3 times in 2 weeks. I went to pick her up yesterday and they told me she threw up EVERYTHING at 4pm. Sophia rarely vomits EVERYTHING so I didnt think much of it until I took the clothes out to do her laundry. I have no clue what/how much they fed her but O M G. I prob would have puked if I saw her throw up that much. Im praying she just ate too much and that it's not her first stomach bug
And for the long commute -- lots of We're moving to CT so let the hour long commutes commence.

Re: Seriously on edge, totally stressed
sounds like my life. I work full time and DS is in daycare. DH is a contractor so he's all over, but usually works close to home. When DS is sick thank goodness we have my MIL close by to help. I just hate not being able to be home with him.
BTW... last night we had the same issue with Mason. He was warm when I picked him up from daycare and then threw up his dinner. It's real due to teething. I kept him home today since DH didn't need to go into work anyway. We lucked out and sometimes with construction they have to wait on other pple they sub out. As another poster said... my son comes first and if DH couldn't take off I would've taken a sick or personal day

Re: Seriously on edge, totally stressed
I have been in the exact same situation - my DH can't really take off that often, and I have little or no time left. On top of that, my job has had layoffs and I am considered "unreliable" due to my childcare issues (having to take off if they are sick). I spoke to the daycare - we now have an arrangement where if I have to keep the boys or one of them home, I'll call there in the am and if they have extra staff (due to low numbers) they can send someone to my house for the day. I have to pay that person cash directly ($10/hr) and still pay the daycare for the day, but it's something. We've done it a few times - 2ce someone was available and once there was no one so I called another daycare worker who was on the evening shift and she came in the day. Usually the daycares have a babysitting list- try to get that so you can have other options if you need them.
Good luck and hang in there!

Re: Seriously on edge, totally stressed
Wendy - I can ask my dad if he can watch her in a pinch. He's right there, and has Lily....and Lily loves Baby Ann. I'm sure he wouldn't mind!

We have the same thing with our daycare. We haven't used it yet and have taken a couple of days here and there. I think this is the most stressful part about being a WOHM. You are stressed on both ends - sick child and demands of work. It is really tough - don't have any advice, but wish you luck. I have thought of hiring a nanny for this issue.
