SERIOUSLY thinking about relocating to NC....
Me and DH are seriously contemplating this now.
If you did this, what was your process?
Thank you.......

Re: SERIOUSLY thinking about relocating to NC....
DH and I came down and visited Charlotte, NC in September 2004. I was SOOO against moving here, but when I saw the city and how wonderful it was, I was sold and we decided to give it a shot.
When we returned to NY, I started talking to my employer about a potential transfer to Charlotte, I found out for sure that I my transfer was approved at the end of October with a start date of February 1, 2005.
We began househunting right away on line, and came down Thanksgiving 2004 to look at houses in person. We put an offer in that weekend, closed January 05!
It's been 2.5 years and I'll never move back.
My suggestion - find an area that appeals to you, figure out the job market for you and your SO, and then come down and visit. HTH

We are having a house built down there but have recently possibly changed our area from Raleigh to Charlotte. We are going down at the end of June to check it out. We already found the house/builder we want!

we are going down next week. We have been doing searches for a little while now, and now when we go down we want to see which area we like.
I have already applied for the NC teaching license and hoping to land a job

I got a great opportunity to transfer with my Firm; and DH was able to transfer in his current role. We are in temp corp housing (since mid April) and have a closing date for the house we are buying for the end of June.

Re: SERIOUSLY thinking about relocating to NC....
Dh got the transfer from his job, we came down and met with a realtor say pre existing houses, met a few builders, went home and decided that building was a better idea for us, called the builder we wanted, picked a lot, they mailed us the contract, we signed it and sent it back with a 10% deposit. We came down here again this weekend, to go to the design center and pick everything out for the house, we will come down again in a few weeks to see placement on the land, and then come back again to have the walk through and close

Re: SERIOUSLY thinking about relocating to NC....
My sister was fed up with life on Long Island (she was a typical LIRR commuter and was getting burnt out at the age of 36). She and her husband moved to Charlotte about a year ago.
Every time DH and I went there to visit, we found more things that we loved about it. The most obvious thing was, we could actually afford a house COMFORTABLY. Plus, they are in desperate need of good teachers, and I've been out of the job for almost a year now.
When DH and his boss worked out a deal that he'd be able to telecommute in his current position, for a NY salary, that pretty much sealed the deal for us.
We move in 19 days and we are SOOOO psyched!!! Sure, there are little things we'll miss...pizza, the diner, being near NYC...but I KNOW that the positives will far outweigh the negatives.
Plus, MrsPatticakes and qtptootie might soon be my neighbors!

Re: SERIOUSLY thinking about relocating to NC....
We are going too. My bro moved to Indian Trail last year and each time I visit I look for houses. DH and I went this weekend again and looked. We are going back next month to work with an agent and look at some more. If you saw the houses I did this weekend and for the money I am so moving, I can not afford the house I want down there if it was in ny it would be a million dollar home for $350,000 there. Also DH has gotten a lot of job offers for what he does down there. I cant wait.

I remember speaking to you about Indian Trail before...you're officially moving down now? So exciting!!! One more for the "NY Transplant" team!
