Severe diaper rash from antibotics

I've lived through this all too many times with DD, now DS has the raging antibotic rash and NOTHING is helping. He screams and screams everytime he pees or poops. It's so hard to clean him or calm him down. I GLOB on diaper cream like an inch thick and use water and paper towel (no wipes.) I took him to the ped it's not yeast. Any other helpful tips?

Re: Severe diaper rash from antibotics

does your creme have zinc oxide in it? if it doesn't, maybe switch to one that does?

other than that, lets see:

diaperless time.... with a hairdryer (on low and pretty far away so it doesn't make him too warm), blow dry his toosh a couple times a day and allow the skin to breathe...

wipes should be unscented-don't rub too much

some people swear by cornstarch ontop of diaper creme

also, ask the nurse at your peds office.. they may have suggestions... it likely could be that the 'metabolized waste' from the medication is irritating him......
good luck!

Vushion diaper cream (prescription and $$$) But so worth it - it treats both yeast and other the other type (Chat Icon )

I would put a layer of that on DD and then cover that layer with thick desitin, so it didn't rub off on the diaper.

Re: Severe diaper rash from antibotics

The best thing ever... when NOTHING else worked a few weeks ago...

Take some Mylanta and mix it with Triple paste and just a little baby powder (or else the mylanta drips all over). When EVERYTHING else failed and my DD looked like she had a burn down there, I was offered this suggestion by a mom of 2 grown girls. WOW! It worked, it worked fast. I keep this little mixture in a covered plastic container for any sign of redness now before it becomes bad again. I also ALWAYS use diaper cream... I'm not sure everyone does this and I cream up not just the "tush" but the front part too, almost up to her belly - especially for the overnight diaper.

Aveeno oatmeal bath. It helped my DD a couple of weeks ago when she had the antibiotic diaper rash.

Triple Paste and powder worked on DD's bleeding rash from antibiotics.
