Sex in the first trimester, with poll

I have to admit that I've been afraid to BD with DH ever since finding out we're pregnant. I am afraid it will trigger a m/c. Am I totally irrational?

If BD'ing in the first trimester REALLY is safe, then why do doctors tell people with threatened miscarriages or certain high risk pregnancies to abstain from sex?


What are your thoughts? I've also included a confidential poll.

We waited until I was 5 weeks, and we had a pretty bad scare, so that was the last time until about 10 weeks.

i will be honest.

We didn't do it. I had a few spotting incidents and those scared the daylights out of me. Tomorrow is 12 weeks....i know i owe him BIG TIME!!!!!

We were like rabbits. Now, 32 weeks in and well. Not so much.

I'm really happy with these answers so far. LOL I thought you all were going to tell me I'm crazy. I had a spotting incident myself (only lasted one day) but I am afraid to have sex until we make it to 12 weeks ....

I am started week 35 today and the only reason why we havent had sex in 2 weeks is because the dr. put me on bed rest and i dont want to weaken my cervix anymore

But before that; we had sex about 3x a week the whole pregnancy

Once i get to 37 weeks the dr. said we can again

i've been PETRIFIED. Every time i'd tell myself, tonight, tonight....i'd have a tiny bit of red or brown blood...it was like someone telling me NOT to.

again - honestly, dave is the um....'biggest' person i've been with - so that is another reason it makes me nervous.

We had sex right away, actually the night we got our bfp! After that it slowed down quite a bit due to my severe morning sickness and lack of sex drive. Once the morning sickness ended my drive came back and we're back at it as we always were (even though its starting to get awkard now)

I have honestly been soo exhausted and had no sex drive.. that I feel terrible for DH... We got married, got preggo, and then.. it all went down hill... He really is a saint right now...

we didn't wait...as a matter of fact its a running joke between rob and i that we got pregnant with twins because we didnt wait!...he asked me one of hte first nites after we got the " you're having twins" speech if it was possible that they were conceived at 2 seperate times......god love him!!!

After my bfp, we didn't want to do it until checking with the doctor first because I have a history of cervical problems and surgery. Well, the doctor has in fact said we should not do it at all for the entire pregnancy! ackkkk!!

got the bfp 2 weeks ago... haven't done it since.

i would like to make up some good excuse for why, but the real reason is that we are TERRIFIED. it's a completely irrational fear that we are going to somehow disrupt the baby's development.

i feel like a total nut even typing this

I was so paranoid, so no sex after the BFP.

Waited until the 2nd trimester,.

You are not alone! I am scared as well, especially in the 1st trimester. I am also a high risk, so I felt it was worth the sacrifice to be careful. There are other ways to be close anyway

Right away, and I haven't had any problems with spotting, but there are many nights when I feel too sick/too exhausted...It actually didn't even occur to me to be worried about hurting it.

whew, so glad we're not alone. It was totally unspoken, but understood. DH never talked about it or initiated it. But last night (and I'm about 11 weeks) he asks "So, when are we gonna have sex again?" I said, well how come you haven't asked? And he said, I know what you're thinking and I know you're scared! I think he is too, but won't admit it.

I feel AWFUL about it. Every night I think, okay, tonight's the night. But I'm too worried. I really think I won't feel sure until 2nd trimester- which isn't far away. Ugh the poor guy. He tells me I'm lucky we have Playboy!

I am glad we aren't the only ones either. I will be 11 weeks on Saturday and we haven't had sex yet. DH and I are both afraid too.

I had taken my test and got BFP at 2 am while on vacation.
When I crawled back into bed- DH asked what was up. I told him I was pregnant and we actually had sex right then an there...very sweet and slow but it was more like a celebration.

Later on we had it every 2 weeks or so in the 1st tri and now its nothing since I'm showing and he's scared.

We had a lot of sex until about week 20 when I was told we couldn't have sex until week 35.

Now I am in week 36 and DD's head is so low, the dr. said DH might actually poke it if we have sex!
