Sexism
Do you think it still exists to the point that it's a problem in the US?
The reactions to Jeanine Pirro really bugged me this week and made me think sexism is a bigger problem across the country than I realize. I also think the sexualization of young girls is getting so out of hand that it is disgusting.

I totally think we, as women, are totally doing ourselves in! We should be teaching the younger females of the termoils that have been faced histoically and how some behavior just perpetuates the inequities. It's amazing how LITTLE women's history is taught in HS.
As for Pirro, I hate that it is so politically motivated.

Re: Sexism
I think it still exists, but not sure that is what motivated the Pirro investigation. I think in politics, the opposition looks for anything that will appear as scandalous and will cause the candidate to lose votes. I think this would have come out whether she was a man or a woman.
However, I am not sure they would have asked a man why he didn't leave his wife......

Re: Sexism
It definitely still exists. There is definitely sexism in todays world. There still is a glass ceiling. There are so few CEO's and CFO's that are women compared the amount of women in the workforce.
I also think that we, as women, are to blame!!
Look at previous posts about who would you rather work for? 90% would rather work for a man. They say women are b*tchy, too emotional, etc... How many people call their hard azz male bosses who yell and scream all day emotional?
If we don't want to work for and with other women, how do we expect men to?
We have also used the word b*tch and ho and whore so much to describe one another that it is no longer an outrageous insult.

Re: Sexism
There was an interesting piece on GMA this morning about this topic - it might be on the website if you are interested. This female scientist, an MIT graduate had a sex change operation. He is now a male scientist and does similar work to what she did before the operation. He said that he overheard people saying at a conference that his work was so much better than his sisters, even though it was the work of the same person - the speaker didn't know he had a sex change.
I found it very interesting.....

Re: Sexism
Oh it exists. Trust me, it exists. Sometimes it frustrates the crap out of me, othertimes I use it to my advantage (men can be so stupid sometimes). I agree with Shelley's post - part of the problem is self-created - how can we expect respect from men when we don't give it to ourselves as women? Though, I think a larger part of the problem is that older women don't help younger women often enough. I've encountered it time and time again - they view the younger employee as a threat, so they sabotage her (it has happened to me...) and that's why many women feel more comfortable working for men, because we all know that a woman's passive aggressive sabotage can be much, MUCH more damaging...

Re: Sexism
Sorry don't mean to hijack......but Did anyone watch The View this morning?
Well, the President of Chile, who happens to be a Woman was on the show. She is a woman who is agnostic, had a child out of wedlock and won this year elections against a billionaire. It is the Country's first Female President.
That's Amazing!

Re: Sexism
Can you imagine a woman who is agnositc and who has a child out of wedlock even attempting to run?
No one would know what she even stands for because they'd be too busy picking her life apart.
And yes, sexism is in full force.

Yeah, seriously. I work at a law firm and at our branch we have 3 associates. Two female (myself included) and one male. The male happens to be a complete and total idiot and can't write to save his life. I have 2+ years experience, he has 5 years of experience and the other associate has 9 years of experience.
The point - myself and this other woman just found out today that the idiot male associate is making considerably more money than either of us. Oh, and did I mention, NO, NOOOO female partners at all?
Sexism is alive and thriving ladies and gentlemen...
