Shakes/Foods To Help Gain Weight?
DS is grossly underweight. The doctor said if he doesn't put weight on in the next few months he wants to see him again. He looks fine with clothes, but when he takes them off he's a little skeleton The medication he is on supresses his appetite, so he really doesn't eat as much as he should. I went to get some of those NutriPals (pediasure for older kids) shakes at lunch, but the calorie/fat content is less than a Nesquick, so I don't think that will help. Any ideas?

My GF's DS was the same way (really thin) and the doctor told her to have him drink carnation instant breakfast shakes.
Also, if you need recipes for yummy shakes how about some chocolate and banana shakes? or strawberry and banana shakes? you can put in some protein powder into the shakes? I would go to a food nutrition store to find some good powder to put into his shakes.
You can also make him peanut butter shakes?

See we have Carnation, but it's just loaded with sugar and I'd rather him not have all the sugar that goes with those types of shakes I was thinking more along the lines of healthy type shakes, not ice cream ones.

My DD is underweight too and I am just waiting for doc to say something
How about shakes made with whole milk yogurt?
Or you can always prepare his foods with a little extra healthy fats-like olive oil, canola oil, does he like avocado? Can he eat nuts? Those type of foods.

He likes peanuts and peanut butter. Maybe I can mix yogurt and peanut butter and somehow make a shake and maybe put some protein powder in.
He is a chicken nugget, pizza, breakfast, mac n cheese kinda kid, so there isn't a lot of room to "add" things to those types of foods
I usually buy skim milk or 1%, but I should probably start buying whole since it's loaded with fat.

Whole milk yogurt, peanut butter and cocoa powder and a little bit of chocolate ice cream ( a tiny bit) = Chocolate peanut butter shake.
you can do the same w/ strawberries, bananas, vanilla ice cream and vanilla yogurt.
Maybe add Whey protein to the shakes, too?

They do make sugar free carnation now. I just bought it from King Kullen. Maybe you could try that.

Re: Shakes/Foods To Help Gain Weight?
Is he a picky eater? If not, you may want to try some of the raw foods that you can get at Dr. B Well - they make a lot of "raw" stuff, and its made with a lot of nuts and saturated nuts in other things - they make these things called "Raw e Os" that are like raw oreos, but not really, but they are sooo yummy and like a gajillion calories - they are all nuts and nut butter type things... Dr. B Well is in Plainview - maybe you can check it out on the way to the GTG at Once upon a tree top?

Thanks! But sugar free usually = splenda or nutrisweet..we try to avoid that.
Liza, he is SUPER picky! Maybe I'll check out that store though and let him pick out some stuff himself. Thanks!
