She officially broke my heart his morning
Lately Alex doesn't want to go to school and begs me to stay home from work and play with her. Now, I KNOW she LOVES school, in fact she won't leave everytime I go to pick her up, but the morning is a different story.
So today we went through the same song and dance. As it happens, she was just really whiny this morning, so I asked her, Alex, why are you so whiny and cranky today? Are you tired?
And her response: "No Mommy, I'm whiny because I'm sad you leave me to go to work all the time"
Oh. My. God. DId you all hear a huge crack this morning at about 9am? Yes, that WAS my heart!

Awwwwww...I am sorry.
Bella did that once or twice last month when I was working insane hours, and it was only half seriously..and THAT was enough to send me over the edge....
I swear at this age though that they KNOW how to upset us, test us, etc.

Yeah, but the thing is I don't work long hours at all! I have an 8 hour day, and once a week I work from home so I stay with her late in the AM and pick her up early.
This kid is SPOILED - she has no idea how good she has it compared to my attorney friends who still work at firms!

I've been there many times. I wish I could tell you it gets easier.
I hope she doesn't want to go home tonight...make sure to guilt trip her right back.

I've so been there. My youngest, at the age of 4, suddenly decided that she just wasn't going to school without a fight. This from a child who was enrolled in daycare at 12 months, who loved every child and teacher at the school and was widely referred to as the "mayor."
I hate to say it but you just have to stand tough. AT this age (and at any time after 3), I always found it easier to do because imo, she would be at school whether I worked or not. It is really hard to deal with smart, intuitive kids at this age because frankly they are manipulative. My husband had less problem dealing with it and ironically on the two days I worked and he would take her, the behavior was always muted. When I would ask him why it was so much easier for him, he would always reply "manipulative I get." 
I bet that Alex senses that changes are coming and she's just a little off and in need of reassurance. Unfortunately, my youngest didn't have the same excuse.
