Re: shinsplints
First, make sure they are shin splints. Your muscles just may be sore from running.
I used to think I had shin splints and it was really just soreless. It was impossible to walk but it was from muscle soreness.
Either way, ice your shins for 20 minutes at a time, a few times a day. This will reduce swelling.
Are you using very old sneakers? Are you running on major downhills? These are ways to get shin splints but if you aren't, you probably just have very sore shins.

Re: shinsplints
No problem! Whatever it is, icing will reduce swelling, shin splints or not.
Also, you should do this exercise (I do this at my desk all the time because I have seriously weak shins muscles)--- spell the entire alphabet with each foot. It might feel sore at first but you are stretching those muscles in every possible way by doing this! Its silly but it works!

Re: shinsplints
Ice cup to reduce the pain.
Even though your shoes are new, they may still be the issue. Were you fitted for them or did you pick them out yourself - because then they may be the wrong shoe for you.
The exercises everyone mentioned should help.
