shoe and sandal sizes

I took Connor on Sunday to Stride Rite to get sandals/sneakers. He measured at a 5. Well, they didn't have the sandal/sneaker that I liked at that store so they had it shipped to my house. Well, I just got them and tried them on and they are waaaaaay too big? You can see the cracks in between his toes so they're too long. Do you think he's really not a size 5 or do you think the size is just different because it's a sandal/sneaker in one? Any thoughts? Thanks! here's a link to what I got...

I know that Stride Rite always tells you 1/2 size bigger. That is the best way to account for growth and be able to get good wear out of them. As long as he can walk in them and they are not flopping off of his feet I would not be worried.
