Shoes - How old?
When should DS start to wear shoes - He has never had his foot in a shoe before, he is 5 1/2 months.
MIL has purchased crib shoes but I always returned them. Should I be putting him in Robeez type shoes?

Re: Shoes - How old?
I dont put shoes on my son and he's almost 8 months. Robeez are fine if you do but I dont think they are necessary at all.

Re: Shoes - How old?
The pediatrician and my podiatrist told me to wait until they're walking. Even then I was told to only put shoes on them if they were outside of the house. Bare feet is the best way for them to learn how to walk.
They both walked at 11 months. I bought shoes about 12 months.

Re: Shoes - How old?
I had a few pairs of roobeez-type shoes (from Target, only like $10) that she wore when she was about 8-12 months old that I'd put her on since people would always comment to me about why wasn't she wearing any shoes, but to be honest I really didn't want to do the shoe thing until she was really walking.
Right before Christmas when she was about 14 months old I finally went to stride rite, got her fitted, and got her good walking shoes, since she was walking all the time then. When we are at home she still just goes barefoot or wears socks, but when we are out I have her wear shoes because sometimes she wants out of the shopping cart/stroller and we let her walk around and hold her hand, so it's more for her foot protection then anything else.
Honestly for a baby that is 5 1/2 months old I'd let them go shoeless for a while longer. The docs say that barefoot is best! Plus it's really important that if you do get shoes you get the baby's foot measured to make sure that it's the right size since a lot of babies have wide and double-wide feet, even if the parents don't.

Re: Shoes - How old?
DD hardly ever wore shoes except for pictures and still doesn't unless we are out of the house (she walks now). Barefoot is always best (socks of course when it's cold).

Re: Shoes - How old?
I got Noah a proper pair of shoes just about 2 weeks ago, he only wears them if he is going to walk outside. I prefer him to wear Robeez type booties because they will let his feet grow more naturally! You can get cruisers or crawlers which have soft bottoms. But I love Robeez!!

Re: Shoes - How old?
I used Robeez just for some extra warmth in the winter, and when she started to walk holding my hands outside. During warm months she was mostly in just socks or barefoot. She didn't wear shoes with hard soles until she was ready to run around independently at a playground.
