shopping for car insurance q
is it normal that they run your credit score to quote you? i just called one company and they said they needed to run my credit in order to give me a quote... they quoted me more than my current policy so i didn't go with them, but it makes me uneasy now if i'm trying to shop around, since i know too many inquiries into your credit is bad..

NO. they can ask for SS# but you can deny giving it.
its based on credit as well but there is no credit to run.

They do not need to run your credit, but if you know you have good credit, you may want them to run a report b/c a lot of companies give you better rates based on your credit score.

Some companies do need to run your credit and will rate you differently if they use that as one of their factors. They can quote you without it though but it may change once they do run it.
I have a really good insurance agent in East Meadow who didn't run credit. We did life, auto and homeowners. FM me if you are interested.

There are companies that factor your credit history into your quote. It can help your rate if you have great credit. Where I work, it's a soft pull, meaning it doesn't impact yout credit rating as an inquiry.
