Shot schedule???? What does the CDC recommend? Did any of you create your own schedule?

I know this is a sore subject. Just wanted to get idea from everyone. I've been doing some research and would like to get other's point of views.

Do you mean immunizations for the baby? I plan on getting them at the times they are recommended. I didn't know parents could "create" their own schedule for them or why you would want to. I've heard of people not getting them at all for their kids though.

I know there is controversy as to whether or not the mercury in the vaccines is enough to cause Autism, but the benefits outweight the risks IMO. DS has developmental delays and when I received Rhogham it was made with Thimerosol (a mercury perservative), and I've spent countless nights wondering if that's why he has the delays he has, but since it hasn't been "proven" to cause developmental problems/Autism/PPD, etc. I just accept things the way they are and not think about it too much :)

I plan to stick with their schedule for a few reasons:

1- I don't want to keep up with it.

2-Some programs, schools and inevitably, public schools can require re-immunization if they weren't taken at the right time.

3-some environments can be "dangerous" to your baby/child if s/he hasn't received a specific vaccine yet. mommy and me classes you take your older tot to can be unsafe for your newborn/younger baby. The older kids can carry the germs but be immune b/c they've had their shot. [we have friends who had to stay out of work and monitor their infant becuase the daycare had a chicken pox outbreak in the older kids and he hadn't received his shot yet]

4-Typically, the kids who get the diseases/illnesses that we are vaccinated for either: got it too early or didn't get it [to NOT get shots at all, you have to prove religious beliefs typically]. I had to get a 4th MMR shot as a kid [9 years old] becuase a kid in our school came down with measles and I had my first MMR 2 weeks too early apparently. [the school offered free shots after school for those of us who hadnt had it or needed another one, but stilll]

5-Benefits simply outweigh the risks.

plan on coming up with my own schedule and doing preservative free (my SIL did this with both kids so she will give me a list of when she had their shots done), i work with children with autism/PDD and their are so many conflicting opinions and reports, so i am just playing it safe

I delayed the shots for my other children and will do the same with this one. No shots before 4 months. I will also delay the MMR until age 3. I will also allow no more than 2 shots at a time (ped doesnt do more than 2 at a time anyway). I will not give shots when my children are sick. Other than that I will go on the advice of my peditrician.

Same here except I delayed until 6 months. We did do more than 2 shots at a time because insurance wouldn't cover them if we wanted them separated.

Here's the AAP schedule

the only shots I refused were at the hospital. But like others, I only have 2 done at one time and they are all thermerisol free (although there are more studies that show autism is NOT linked to immunizations than there are ones that link)

You just never know where someone - anyone - has been. In a store you could get sneezed on by someone who just came back from a foreign country. Like others have said - the benefits outweigh the risks.

I am following the one that the ped. gave us. He gets 2 shots each month, so looking at the schedule that was posted above, I think it is already modified by the ped. I DID NOT get DS the Hep B shot, as I don't believe in giving it so young. I also did not get him the Rotavirus shot because it was only approved in Feb. of '06 and the FDA ordered more tests of this shot, so I opted out of it.

Well, we didn't get any shots for DS, and we don't plan on it. If you want any links for more info FM me. I'll list some of the reasons why we don't.
