Shot suggestions
Anyone have any hints or suggestions?
It's been really rough on me and i feel like i've been hit in the stomach. For the last week or so i've been black and blue. I'm only on day 2 for stimming and i'm having a hard time. I hate this mixing and i can't get the liquid full in the syringe. I really hope i'm not screwing this up. I really don't know how i'm going to get through this :(
I went in to sign my consent forms tonight and the RE suggested i give my stomach a break and try my thigh. Well, the Gonal F shot made a really big mark and its killing me now. It's worse than any of the marks on my stomach I don't think that was a good idea!
I guess i'll find out a little more on Wed when i go for my first follie check.

Re: Shot suggestions
Gosh.... sounds like you are bruising easily. Are you icing at all before the shots? Maybe that would help. I know that sometimes girls bring their meds to have a nurse do the shot. Maybe you might want to try that so they can a) reassure you that you are mixing correctly and b) see if they can help you take less painful shots.
Good luck.

Re: Shot suggestions
I really think u should talk to your dr's office. With the exception of the trigger (and later the PIO), I had no pain while stimming. The shots were quick and pretty painless. R u sure u r using the right needle?
Sorry u r in pain!

Are you using the right needles? The shortest ones are the ones you should be using.
I've used ice to numb the spot before the injection. It helps a LOT!

Another thing you can might consider is EMLA cream. It's basically lidocaine that you apply about 30-40 minutes before the injection and it completely numbs the skin. You won't feel the needle going in at all.
I use it for my intramuscular injections and I never feel the needle. Good luck!

Re: Shot suggestions
When I spoke to the dr yesterday, he looked at my stomach and said it was 'normal' to bruise a little bit. At this point the only one thats THAT bad is the one on my thigh from yesterday. I'm pretty sure that's because of having to put pressure with the pen. I won't be doing that again. I'll try and talk to a nurse tomorrow when I'm there for blood and sono in the morning.
I'm positive that i'm using the right needles. I think I bruise easily in general so maybe that's the problem. I'm the biggest klutz and always walking into things LOL.
Maybe I will try icing tonight before I do the injection.

Re: Shot suggestions
Hmm...make sure you squeeze the area you are inserting the needle. Then let go when you are ready to inject. Double check the area you are putting it in, make sure its in the "fattest" area of your stomach. Inject slowly. And also, and I think I bruised easy the first IUI w/ Injectibles, make sure you go in at 90 degrees (straight in and straight out). I'm a total klutz too. One time I forgot to pull out (ok I did this more than once) the gonal f pen dose and stuck it in...woops! I've also pulled the needle out on an angle and sliced my skin open.
I hate to say this but by stim day 5 you will be an expert.

Re: Shot suggestions
Gonal F has not caused me much bruising at all. I'm using the pen & do it as close to my belly button on alternating sides. I bearly feel that one (29 or 30 gauge needle). I did hit a blood vessel once & my belly is black & blue from that (with lots of little red needle marks on the sides.
Every thing else is in a 27 or 28 gauge needle so far. I don't ice (I want to avoid any problems in uptake).
Alternate sides & do it as close as possible to belly button (hurts less). Hold pressure if you see blood coming out after the needle is out.
Are you on ANY other medications/herbal stuff? Ginko can be an anticoagulant.
As for mixing... there will be a LITTLE lost each time. I use 1 cc and mix mes into that. Be sure that you have the vial totally upside down & look on the bottom where there is a slight slit in the rubber to see the level of fluid go down as you draw back.

Now I feel better knowing i'm not the only one.
I keep telling myself today is day 3, hopefully only 6 more to go (even though i'm sureit will probably be more than that).
