Should I call?

So, I had an interview with the Superindendent last week-Tuesday. This was after an interview with the principal, then a demo lesson. All went well, he said I would hear from him "very soon". He asked for my references. Its been 8 days now, and he hasn't called my references. I know the job is supposed to start in a week or so. Should I just let it go and figure I didn't get it, or should I call and ask if they have made their desicion yet? It's weird because I have been on an interview there before, and I got a rejection letter right away, so I keep looking for one in the mail, but nothing so far.
So confused! Help!

Re: Should I call?

I would most definitely call!!!!!! The worse they could say is no...and also if you do get it, it would be nice to have some prep. time before you start.

GOOD LUCK!
