Re: Should I cave?

Honestly, yes. I dug my heels in. I didn't want it. Then DH asked me if I wanted it as a birthday gift. How could I decline?

He actually asked me last night if I prefer it and I do. I really do.

Ya know what I really didn't like about printed books? Having to hold them open. Chat Icon It sounds dumb, but I read so much so often that I'd get cramps in my hands from holding the book open. No more of that!

Re: Should I cave?

I used to think that i loved physical books... i really dont know why... the smell, the feel? what does that have to do with reading a story?

it literally makes me laugh now when i think about it... lol

I don't know. I still love printed books. I love walking into a bookstore and just wandering the aisles. I love the covers. I'm a messy reader, too. So if I re-read my books I'll notice bent pages or stains or rips and maybe it was in reaction to something that happened in the story and that makes me laugh and smile. Still love my e-reader more. And now I don't need to get more bookshelves and make more space for the books I read. Though I always did like proudly displaying them in my house (even the vampire smut I read is proudly displayed! lol!)

Re: Should I cave?

One doesn't preclude the other. DW has a Nook, and she uses it a lot, but she still gets physical books from the library for her and DC. The Nook is more convenient, so she uses that outside of the house, but in the house, she'll tend more towards physical books.

Re: Should I cave?

I resisted for a long time too but I looooove my kindle now. I rent books for free from the library instantly - AWESOME. And you can take more than 1 book on a trip, which is great if you're at the tail end of one book and about to start another! Or if you just change your mood and switch between between books (like I do).

Re: Should I cave?

I felt the same.

I will never go back to print. Unless it's a first edition of a rare book I don't care about the medium.

Re: Should I cave?

I am glad you wrote this because I felt the same, I will buy a regular book now and then but if you read a lot like I do, it saves a lot of time going to the store.

Re: Should I cave?

I caved and I never thought I would. I think having a baby and not being able to get to a bookstore as much as I use to was the reason. I still buy books but I love my kindle. I just told my DH that Im so glad he bought it for me, it's my favorite gift.

I still walk around the bookstore, you dont have to lose that experience. I just don't buy the books. I write down what is interesting to me, and then get them from the library from free.

The problem is that as more people buy E-Readers, less people buy actual books thereby decreasing the need for book stores Chat Icon

(I do have an e-reader, but it makes me sad that bookstores may go extinct)

I might be the minority but I am not a fan of e-readers. I borrowed nooks, kindles, kindle fires, ipads ... did not enjoy reading on any of them.

I am book girl...

Go for it! I'm a book lover too. BUT - it's soo nice to be able to download whatever book you want with the click of a button, sitting on your couch in PJ's with a glass of wine Chat Icon

Re: Should I cave?

My MIL got me a Kindle last year for my birthday -- -I was against it since I love the feel of books and the look of all my books on a bookshelf.

I have to say I LOVE the kindle -- great for traveling and I read on my lunch break at work. You can download a new book whenever/whereever you are....

but.... if I read a book on my Kindle that I really like I go out and buy the real book as well Chat Icon So it doesn't always save me $$ LOL.

I need to look into borrowing Kindle books or getting them from the Library.

edit to say I have the original Kindle -- no backlight nothing fancy --- this is great b/c you can read it outside and in the sun and you have zero glare
