Should I change to pull-ups?

DS is in the early stages of potty training. He has been peeing on the potty about 10 times total in the past week and just pooped for the first time.

What do I do now? TIA!!!!!

I would give it a shot. I'm not a BTDT mom yet of a potty trainded kid, but it sounds like your little slugger may be ready

Re: Should I change to pull-ups?

Kelly, go RIGHT into underwear. With all 3 of mine, I never used pull ups, they are a diaper that you just pull on instead of lying them down to put it on them.

There will be accidents, but with underwear he will FEEL it, and thats how they learn to recognize when they have to go. With a pull up, they do not feel it when they are wet.

Good luck!

Re: Should I change to pull-ups?

Jordan wore pull ups way before she even potty trained because she was a chunky monkey and they seems more comfy with the stretchy sides and no tabs. It can't hurt to switch.

It's okay to go right to underwear this young? He is almost 2 1/2. What do I do when we go out? What do I do at night? WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING?!?!?

Maybe I should hold off on the new rug I was about to order. Chat Icon

I have to agree with this. If you are ready to commit to potty training full on, just put on the underwear.

I've been ready to commit, but not sure if DH is ready to commit. And he watches him when I am working.

Pull ups = diaper, ITA with that

But we've been practicing with them b/c Christopher needs to learn to push up and down with them and he isn't close to potty training

Both of my boys were trained at 2 1/2 and DD is now 2 years and 4 months, and COMPLETELY trained.

You bring a change of clothing in your diaper bag. Underwear, pants, socks, and you make him go before you leave the house, and ask a LOT while you are out.

As I said, there WILL be accidents, but going straight into underwear is the FASTEST way to PT. It took under a week all 3 times for mine. Seriously. It CAN be done without losing your mind.

Put a pad under his tush in the carseat, like one of the waterproof mattress pads, just in case.

At night, you can put him in pull ups in the beginning, but chances are, after a few nights, he will start to wake up completely DRY as a bone, and will pee as soon as he wakes up. I have an entire package of pull ups for DD. She used them for 8 nights, then started waking up dry, on the 4th dry morning, I decided to go with underwear at night, and she has only wet the bed ONCE, and thats when she was sick.

Good luck! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!

Re: Should I change to pull-ups?

i've potty trained dozens of kids (as a prek teacher) and ds and each kid needs a different approach. i used pull ups with josh as a transition to underwear. it helped get him used to pulling it up and down himself, he felt the cool alert sensation in the beginning to get him more aware of himself and it was more of a big boy thing for ds to be proud of. he was only 2 when he started peeing in the potty so he wasn't emotionally ready fro underwear. we did this for a few months and then i talked to him and prepared him for starting underwear. he had naybe 3 accidents and has been great since (he was a bit younger than 2 1/2.)

it took a bit for dh and i to get used to remembering to take him out in public but you get used to it and we bring the folding portable potty seat when we're out if they don't have a step stool for him.

Re: Should I change to pull-ups?

Thanks for posting your question--sorry I have no answers, but I'm in the same boat. DS has gone 3 times over the past few days (always pee), and I don't feel so comfortable putting him in underwear yet. Maybe if it continues a little longer I will, it does sound as if it's good to do this sooner than later from the other posts.

He is wearing pull ups during the day and diapers for naps and bedtime. But a few more days of regular peeing and we may move to underwear.

Re: Should I change to pull-ups?

Just yesterday I stared at the diaper Isle for a long time before deciding no more diapers, and I bought a box of pull ups. I tried underwear, but DS really didnt want to wear them, but was willing to wear a pull up, so I am hoping to transition to undies soon. DS is 100% poopy trained, but we need to work on the pee pee...one day at a time I guess.

IMHO pulls ups are glorifed diapers. Go right to the underwear and then diapers at night until he is night trained. At night we even did underwear with a diaper over it.

If you are going to go the underwear route, you can get training underwear- they just have an extra layer or 2 in the crotch, so if DC has an accident, it absorbs some of the mess a bit. I know they sell them at Target.
