Should I discuss X-Mas present with DH first?

I want to get DS a play kitchen. We are having baby number 2 and I just think we will get a lot of use out of it. I think it's a Unisex toy. I mentioned it to DH once and he gave me a funny look. He's usually doesn't care about that stuff but...........

Would you just buy it and tell him afterwards or do you think that it's nice to talk about all the gifts before I buy them?

That is what I didChat Icon I just really don't see the big deal about having a kitchen. I would love Andrew to be a chef one day. I would never have to cook againChat Icon Chat Icon

Just point out that Emril, Bobby Flay, Mario Batalli.... are all sitting on a huge pile of cash.

I just buy everything and DH sees it after. He never cares. If you think your DH would have an issue with it then discuss it I guess.

ETA: I know LOTS of boys who love their kitchens! I say go for it!

DS has an outdoor kitchen, he helps with DW in the real kitchen (he cracks eggs, mixes stuff in bowls, etc). When he is playing pretend, he just makes up a stove, microwave, bowls, etc. You can't prevent a child from using their imagination. I would love it if DS learns how to be a great chef, even if it's just for meals for our family, and eventually his family.

I would tell DH that I was getting it. Just remind him that most great chefs are men. Straight, cute men.

My nephew and neice shared a kitchen toy, and both loved it equally. I don't see anything wrong with a boy playing with a kitchen.
