Should I look for a new OBGYN?

DH and I moved to West Orange, NJ from the Upper East Side about a month ago. I still work on Wall Street. My current doc is located on the Upper East Side. Do I switch now or is it OK to stick with her? My commute to work is about an hour now and I basically work 7am - 5pm. It is tough enough in the city to get appointments, forget about having to get an appointment with a doc out of the city! I don't LOVE my doctor but I am OK with her. Been going to her for about 6 years now. Oh, and also, it is just her and her husband in the office. Don't know how it works if they are on vacation or something when it is time to have a baby. Do I ask her for recommendations for a doctor closer to my house?

Oh, the questions I have!!!!!!!

IMO I would switch. I would get a dr closer to my home or at least one in the downtown area

Good luck!

Thank you, that is what DH said too! Maybe I will ask my current doc for recommendations?

I would switch too- though also think about where you want your baby to be born. If it was me, I think I would prefer a doc close to home because a city doc might only be affiliated with city hospitals. I would worry about being home, in labor, and having to deal with traffic going into Manhattan. Especially if it's rush hour.

I was in the same situation as you. I switched from NYC to a dr. in NJ when I was 13 weeks. It was much better for me. It also gives you time to get to know the Dr. before delivery.

Where are you in NJ? Are you happy with your doc? How many are in his practice?

My practice is in Morristown. It is pretty big. There are 6 Drs. 5 of which deliver. The five are female. I was worried about the practice being so big, but in the end I had a great experience with them. My daughter was 9 months yesterday and she was born at Morristown Memorial Hospital. I had a wonderful experience at the hospital as well. I have attachjed a link to the practice below. I am originally from LI so I'm really not sure how far you are from Morristown. Still trying to learn my way around.

My sister-in-law also moved to NJ from the city during her pregnancy and they were recommended to her. Good luck!

I would switch.. I think its to far a commute if you were to become pregnant.
Unless the hospital she was affliated with was closer to you.
