Should p/t employees receives raises?
I have been with my company p/t for just about 3 years and have not gotten any raise. There is another p/t employee who works at a different location who told me he asked for a raise a couple of years ago and they told him they could give him a raise but they would cut back his hours
What is making me upset is that there is a young f/t employee that has been working here for about 2 years. I just heard my two bosses talking on speaker phone and they are giving him a raise. He does work his arse off (coming in on weekends and staying late and not getting paid for it) but I work my arse off when I'm here too.
I am a little pizzed right now but feel like an idiot going to talk to them about it. My company makes a lot of $$$, my bosses make a lot of $$$ but they are cheap as hell with their employees.
ETA: I'm also ****** because my DH gave him a DEA card which my boss has literally abused and has gotten out of a tickets 3x's in the last few months. Needless to say my DH will never give him one again. But you would think he would take that into account.

Ask for one. I don't see why a p/t employee is any less valuable than a f/t employee. If you are doing a good job, you should be rewarded.

I feel stupid. I dont know how to ask for one In the past at my old job I got a raise every year because I was a good employee. These two are just cheapo's. And now I feel like this guy might have beaten me to the punch. Won't it look weird I go in to talk to them a day after the other guy got a raise?

Re: Should p/t employees receives raises?
I am part-time with the company I work for. I worked 3 years with them FT before having my kids and deciding to go back only PT. I get an annual raise, plus I get a bonus check at Christmas and in July (our fiscal year). All in all, I am treated very well. The only thing I don't qualify for is benefits. and it saves them some money since I don't use they benefits (which they pay a certain percentage of employees health, dental and life benefits).

Re: Should p/t employees receives raises?
I cannot imagine why a PT employee wouldn't get a raise. I would think they are entitiled to performance based raises just like a FT employee.

agreed.
Schedule some time with your manager and document and itemize your performance, dedication and loyalty. Ask for an increase based on merit and what you bring to the organization. Being part time doesn't matter.
I will say that if your firm doesn't have an annual or merit increase program, you will really have to lobby for it. Is there an employee manual?

I am p/t at my company and I have gotten a raise. I've gotten them when I get my annual review.
Do you get a yearly review? Maybe ask then, but I think you should be entitled to one.

Re: Should p/t employees receives raises?
From what I can see you're asking two different questions on the XP post.
No one is "entitled" to raises unless it's in their contract.
*Should* they get raises...like everyone else, if it's warranted, of course.
Regardless of a raise, you should receive an annual performance review.
I know from experience, most employees don't ask for increases & wait to get them. If you want one, speak up. Make your case for it.
Write down the extra that you do, how you go above & beyond. Do a market comparison in your area so if you're doing more than one person's job, they can see on paper, the value you bring.
Don't bring up who asked for a raise, who got one. It's not relevent to your salary discussion.
Also you should tell your co-worker to go for the increase, even if they cut his hours to match so he's netting the same. If they increase the hours, he gets more money. If he looks for another job, he was making $x+y as opposed to $x. Also depending on how the hours worked out, he could even receive some unemployment if he's cut back enough to warrant it. Unemployment based on his new salary that is...

Re: Should p/t employees receives raises?
P/T employees at my job get a yearly review and raise based on their review. I think it's absurd that you don't get a yearly raise. Are you happy there otherwise?

Re: Should p/t employees receives raises?
I've worked p/t for less than a year at my one position and have already received 2 raises (not huge..but every bit helps)...i did not ask for them...I am fortunate to have a great boss.
My other p/t job gives you a raise each year you are there..i'm in my 2nd yr there...HTH!
