Should teachers / school staff be Covid tested?
Do you think teachers, bus drivers, school staff should be tested for Covid and have results back immediately before schools reopen and get tested regularly thereafter?

Given the delay in testing now, I don't think that it is practicable. One of my coworkers was just tested (with symptoms) - went on Monday - got results back yesterday.

Should teachers / school staff be Covid tested?
No, only if they have symptoms.

Re: Should teachers / school staff be Covid tested?
This isn’t a bad idea, it’s just not possible due to the total lack of testing capabilities nationally. Some areas are waiting 7-14 days for results so it doesn’t really work.

so then should students be tested as well? Can't just have the staff be tested, and not the students.

And in that case it's just too many people to be tested. And how often? Every week? Every 2 weeks? Twice a week? What if you test me today and I'm negative and then I catch it that night when I'm food shopping or whatever? False sense of security.

Re: Should teachers / school staff be Covid tested?
This test is so invasive and painful for some people. I’ve heard people having recurring nosebleeds from it also. I would not force it upon anyone without symptoms least of all children. If they develop a saliva test, I would have no problem with it. I know my 5 year old would be so traumatized by this test. He even has a very hard time with the strep test.

I don't think it would be feasible but everyone needs to implement new sick policies. Too many people are coming to work sick because they can't afford to take the time off. I think there should be mandatory unlimited sick pay with doctor's note. (To prevent abuse of sick policies)

Re: Should teachers / school staff be Covid tested?
No. For numerous reasons. I don't think this is the norm but I went to City MD for a test. They said 7 days for results. It took 17!!!! Someone could also get the test and then contract the virus the next day! It is a very unpleasant test. I would hate the added stress of going for it over and over. I don't think it's feasible or fair.

Should teachers / school staff be Covid tested?
No. We went as a family to get tested last month. We weren't sick, but we wanted to make sure we weren't asymptomatic before we went to our rental house in CT for six weeks. It is invasive and painful. I handled it fine, and I know I will probably have to get it done again in order to return to my school building. But my kids were wrecks. They don't flinch at vaccines or blood work, but once the younger ones saw my 9 yr old gag & then start to cry, they all broke down. I will get them tested again before school, but I can't imagine subjecting them to that on a regular basis.

Re: Should teachers / school staff be Covid tested?
No unless the teachers as a majority decide this is what they want to do to feel safe. This is a false sense of security, so whether someone got tested or not does not provide me anything extra. So I would not agree to an evasive tests that is going to produce minuscule to no results that will help us prevent a spread in time. I leave this up to the staff to decide if this is what they want to do.
I will say if they required routine testing or a vaccine for my son, I would pull him out of school.

Should teachers / school staff be Covid tested?
I think the current turn around time is a huge issue, but yes, I do think school staff should be tested every two weeks. If my hair dresser needs to, I can’t see why teachers shouldn’t. But, testing time is disgraceful right now.
As for students, I do think they should need a negative test result to return to school if they display a recordable fever at school. Honestly, it would cut down on a million illnesses if kids weren’t in school with fevers.

I agree with you, but if they start doing this people will just pump their kids full of Motrin and send them to school sick anyway.

Should teachers / school staff be Covid tested?
Who is paying for the testing? My FIL had to have a negative test before he could return to work but his employer wasn't paying for it. How are families with no insurance going to be able to afford that?

Insurance or the government? I went for a test - I paid $25 since I wanted rapid results but, a regular test would've cost $0.

Insurance should cover it yes. But the poster here was talking about uninsured people. I doubt the government is paying for the tests, but who knows.

Testing unless you think you are sick is useless. Just because I test negative today does not mean I can not be positive tomorrow. it is a false sense of security.

That's what I've been saying. So you get tested, show up negative, go back to work, go back to school, go on your trip and then you pick it up the next day. You feel more secure that you were tested, but it's a false sense of security.

Exactly. Plus I don’t know if any of you have administered these tests but it is difficult to get a good sample from an adult let alone a child who is crying and turning their head away. There will be substantial false negatives.

Sounds like they need to come up with an easier way to test for it. Why is the test for this so much more invasive than a flu test swab by the way? Whats the difference in the virus?
