Should we take our own snorkel gear/life vests to Cayman Islands?

We leave for the Cayman Islands on Wednesday. Plan to go to both Turtle Farm and Stingray City. Have not yet reserved them yet. I know you can go snorkeling at both places.

Should we take our own snorkel gear or do they provide?

7yo DS is a beginner swimmer and will need a life vest to snorkel. Should I take his old puddle jumper instead? He hasn't worn his in about a year.

We will take 5yo DS's puddle jumper since he can't swim at all. I wanted to get rid of his puddle jumper but after this trip.

We were at the turtle farm this past August. They provided snorkel equipment. My 6 year old snorkels with us and loved it! Have a great trip.

For some reason, using public snorkel gear skeeves me, so I'd bring my own if you can.

Have you ever watched them just dunk the equipment? I don't think they clean them well. I always bring my own mask and snorkel and my DH and kids do as well. I don't bring fins, those I borrow. I don't like the idea of putting something in my mouth that many other people have.

Usually you have to wear those blow up fluorescent vests. We have our own. But my kids snorkeled last year with just the inflated vest. You don't need the puddle jumper. Just inflate his vest.

We are going snorkeling next week, and the thought of sharing kind of skeeves me. My DD has her own snorkel, but the rest of us don't. Now I feel like I should go get my own!

DH and DS have their own and taking theirs. Younger DS and I don't but we are going to take our goggles. Just glancing in the water to see the sea life should be good enough for us.

I was going to scramble to go buy one for myself but I was never into this stuff. I will just hang out with younger DS and look at the fish for 2 min at a time.

That's probably a good idea....I'm not a snorkel fan myself, but booking it was a good way for us to see a couple of nice looking islands without having to take a water taxi (we are going to Puerto Rico)

I just wanted to update from my own post on here, that we did a snorkeling trip yesterday and they were cleaning the gear after we used it right on the boat. Actually scrubbing down each snorkel and mask. I was seriously impressed!

Re: Should we take our own snorkel gear/life vests to Cayman Islands?

We ended up taking 1 adult and 1 child snorkel. Our resort had zayaks(?), floating rafts that had a glass window to see fish.

Kids absolutely loved swimming with the turtles at Turtle Farm.

We didn't go to Stingray City. We were planning to but our resort had so many free boating options that we played with the kayaks, sailboats, rafts, water bikes and zayaks.

I'm going to be going soon with a just turned 4 year old, 5 year old & a baby.

What tour did you do at turtle farm?
Did they give life vests for snorkeling?
Where did you end up staying (resort)?

Would they allow my baby on boats? Specifically sting ray city & kayaks, etc? She's 7 months old.
TIA!!!!
I can't wait!

Yes! I always wonder just how they're "cleaning" those things. I have to force myself to not think about it. I tell myself next time I'll bring my own. . . Chat Icon

Turtle Farm was so much fun! We were planning to do the basic tour and not swim but took our 2 snorkels just in case. We ended up getting the tour that allowed us to swim with the turtles and it was the highlight of our trip. I didn't bring my swim suit or any towels. I was baking in the sun but got some fantastic pictures of DH and the boys. Boys are easier. They all just wore their swim trunks to the farm.

They had snorkel gear and vests available. I wish I had taken the puddle jumper for 5yo DS.

We ended up staying at the Ritz. It was very nice but $$$.

What I didn't realize is that Sting Ray City is an area in the water. Multiple boats go there daily. You could definitely take your 7m old on the boat but I wouldn't take an infant into the actual water with the stingrays.
