Show me your front yard landscaping

Please Chat Icon

This is what we are working with....

External Image

Also - I am going to work on photoshopping this picture to show you what we want.. but any ideas - I'd be grateful Chat Icon

ETA: Where the picture ends on the left.. is where the yard ends.. its tiny Chat Icon (which I like) ... We also have TWO cesspools in the front yard Chat Icon .. So a tree isnt an option right in the middle.. although I'd love a magnolia or cherry blossom tree.. Chat Icon

Re: Show me your front yard landscaping

i think you need a tallish tree / bush in the small front bed next to house and garage.

on the other side some medium size shrubs... flowers of course in spring.

you have a lot of drieway. i'd consider planter boxes, like seat height on the side by the fence.

nice house!

Thanks Chat Icon

What we have done so far - that flower bed next to the stairs - I planted 150 tulips Chat Icon that will sprout in the spring.
I want to rip those shrubs out that are on the front lawn and possibly plant a magnolia tree (since the shrubs are there - I cant imagine it would be a big deal to plant a tree there) - with pretty stones Chat Icon all around the bottom. We are building out around the driveway (left side) and in front of the little walk to get to the stairs out about a foot to make plant beds to put a bunch of blooming flowers - and I already planted two rose bushes around the mailbox (my yellow roses are still blooming in this crazy weather!)

I just feel like its the old homeowners home.. it leaves VERY little to actually do.. KWIM...

Nice house! Sounds like you did some great stuff already, a tree in the front would look awesome if you can do it. What about the right side of the driveway, in that little strip next to the fence? I'd plant some flowers there in the spring.

I agree. Nice house and it sounds like you have done some nice stuff already. I would be careful with putting a tree in the front yard with the cesspool being in the front. Maybe call a cesspool company and see what they think. The root system of the tree (years down the road) would probably grow into the cesspool, maybe causing problems. But I'm not sure. Just a thought.

I really like that idea of planting some flowers in the small stip next to the driveway on the right. Maybe some DayLiliys. They last all summer and into the Fall. They have nice colors, you could mix and match the colors or just do all the same colors. And you don't have to plant them each year, they come back and they come back fuller the next year. It would fill in that area nicely.

We have a wide line Hi-Ranch. Take a look at my pics. link

Here is the yard from the first year we planted.

These are the daylily's, but not in bloom yet. This is what they look like when they first come up in the summer without the blooms. I don't seem to have any pics with the blooms.

Here are my red ones too.

These pics are from the first year we planted them. They really filled out the next year. We love them. The blooms die off, but new ones keep coming back the whole summer and into the Fall.

The daylillies along the side of the driveway is an awesome idea! When do those need to be planted? Being on a corner, I may want to do them along the fence as well.. Where would I buy the daylillies? I really like the yellow, they also come in red and orange right? Thanks Chat Icon

When we planted them two years ago, we planted them in August because then is when we planted everything. I think you can plant them as soon as you see them in the stores. I don't know where you live, but we bought ours at Garden Depot in Coram. I'm not sure what colors they come in besides the yellow & red. I think you can order them online too and I believe they have lots of different colors. Mine were called "Daylily - "Happy Returns", Hemerocallis". The blooms die off, but return. There are always new ones coming back. Ours just recently died off completely for the year. We just cut them down low and they just grow back the following year. Real easy. GL!
