Shower 3 Weeks Before Baby?
My family doesn't live on LI, so my shower will be thrown on LI by some people who live down here & some of my family from upstate. My sister just told me that they're planning on Memorial Day weekend for my shower, because she'll have that Monday off from work and so will some other out-of-town people. I am BEYOND grateful for any shower and would love to have my family down at any time, but I'm imagining having my shower only 3 weeks before my due date is going to be really tough, no? Not only will I be huge & uncomfortable, we'll have to get the nursery together, put lots of gifts together (swing, car seat, wash clothes, etc) before the baby arrives. And, probably at least 3 or 4 family members would stay at our house small house when they come down, making it even more busy around here (they'd offer to stay at a hotel I'm sure, but after paying for flights & the shower, etc...I would never allow them to stay elsewhere, you know? Especially because it would be more $$ on Memorial Day weekend!)
What do you ladies think? I seriously hope I don't sound ungrateful because that's not me at all, I'm just wondering how it's going to happen!

I agree with you.
I don't understand why people want to wait until the last minute.
I always thought... what if I don't get what is on my registry. I would have to rush to get it before the baby comes.
I think 2 months before DD is good timing.

Exactly! And what if I don't get some key things off of the registry at the shower (car seat, etc.) and they're not in stock right afterwards so I can buy them? I don't want to have to switch to another one, you know? Again, I'm really not ungrateful, just anxious and I'm a planner, so it stresses me to wait until the last minute!

I agree. I think waiting until the last minute is annoying. My shower will be on May 18th and I am due July 1st. I want to be able to see what I dont get so then DH and I can go out and buy it.

Re: Shower 3 Weeks Before Baby?
I actually bought my big items because of this reason and because I had great deals on them.

I agree.
First, holiday weekends are not necessarily a good idea. I've stopped planning things for holiday weekends because so many friends and family have travel plans/time shares/annual parties of their own. My wedding was on July 4th and my cousins complained for months (then again, they'd probably complain no matter what day it was. )
You will also have to wash all of the clothes and set up everything. Keep in mind you will have limited energy My shower was week 30 and I've been doing bits and pieces all along for the last three weeks. Depending upon the changes you want to make to the nursery, it can take a lot of time,
You very well might not get some of the basic items you need right away. We had to order our double snap and go, buy bottles and get a bigger diaper bag so yes, we had a trip to BBB the day after the shower. I really wasn't physically up to the trip the day after my shower.
Can you enlist the help of some friends or family members? Will they be willing to run to BRU or BBB for you for necessities and help you set up the nursery?

I agree. 3 weeks before will barely give you time to sort through the gifts and buy whatever you still need, not to mention getting the nursery ready. Plus, what if you go into labor earlier than your due date?

Re: Shower 3 Weeks Before Baby?
My shower is less than 3 weeks before I am due. As much as I'd like it to be earlier, I can't make them change it to another weekend. Even though it doesn't make things easier on me, I have no control over it. Sometimes two months before your due date just doesn't fly.
It does stink, but I am guessing that it will help me make those last agonizing weeks go a bit faster.

Re: Shower 3 Weeks Before Baby?
Mine is also 3 weeks before my due date. I am anxious about it for a few reasons, including everything the AP's mentioned, but when it comes down to, it is out of my control so I just have to grin and bear it. I just don't understand why they feel the need to wait- especially since my mom has done this before (waiting until the last minute). She planned my SIL's shower 3 weeks from the due date and my SIL ended up having the baby that morning!

Re: Shower 3 Weeks Before Baby?
Let me add my 2 cents about showers on holiday weekends....they are horrible. My bridal shower was planned for a holiday weekend and actually had to be reschedule b/c almost nobody would have attended. My baby shower was Presidents weekend and out of the 35 people invited, including myself, only 13 people showed up! As far as it being 3 weeks away from you due date, mine was the same thing, I felt the same way, you dont know what you are going to get and people dont tend to shop too early for shower gifts so it was hard to hold back from buying stuff, but I did. DH and I went to BBB on saturday and used the gift cards to buy the stuff that wasnt bought from the registry.

Re: Shower 3 Weeks Before Baby?
Well, although it isn't ideal, I would rather have it then than not have one at all!!
I think you may feel rushed but it will be OK. Baby won't use most of that gear or even the nursery for a few weeks anyway.

Re: Shower 3 Weeks Before Baby?
I agree with you. This happened with a friend and she wound up coming to her shower after being released from the hospital while her husband watched their newborn baby at home....nobody knew she was going early but things happenn. She wasn't too happy. I hope they can work something out for your sake

Re: Shower 3 Weeks Before Baby?
i am in the same exact situation. looks like my shower will be within 3 wks of my due date too..i don't want to appear ungrateful so i am staying quiet but i am so anxious about it! it's good though to see that i am not the only person to have their shower so incredibly close to their due date!

Re: Shower 3 Weeks Before Baby?
Well - I'm due in 5 wks and have not had my shower yet - I posted about it over the wknd, so at this point, I wouldnt be surprised if its 3 or even 2 wks before my due date!
