Shower for #2?

DH and I are trying for our first baby. This will be HIS first and my 2nd (DS is from a previous marriage). My DS is 5 years old and will likely be 6+ by the time I have #2.

My question is, in this scenario, is it okay to have a baby shower?

I had a shower with my first and when I divorced I saved a lot of the big ticket items. I still have a high chair, the Graco stroller, PNP, and a convertible car seat. But there's also a LOT of stuff my Ex kept that we would need to register for (infant carseat, bassinet, bedding, swing, bouncer, etc.) along with lots of smaller items. Part of me feels guilty for wanting another shower, but another parts of me feels like this is my DH's first child and his family's first grandchild and they should be able to celebrate it.

What say you?

I think its MORE than fine! Especially since this is his first baby and your son is considerably older.

Shower for #2?

You should have another shower! Plus, the expiration date on most car seats is 6 or 7 years - so you will need a new one anyway!

Imagine if your son were in this situation some day. I'm sure as his mom you would want the chance to celebrate his and his wife's first baby. I would definitely go for it!

I wouldn't do it.

A baby shower is not the only way to celebrate a birth.

I think its absolutely fine! His family will of course want to celebrate and regardless of this being your first or not, I am sure your family would be more than happy to celebrate another baby in the family! Anyone who doesn't agree, doesn't have to go

Re: Shower for #2?

IMO ALL babies should be celebrated!!! so for the reason you're having a baby alone is reason enough for a shower.

you know i'm in the same boat as you...2nd baby for me and 1st for DH and I'm having a shower. I'm having a huge shindig lol i sold everything after my divorce so i have nothing.

dont feel bad about wanting a shower. you're having a baby and the baby should be celebrated!

Shower for #2?

I am having my shower for my 2nd this weekend. My son is 6 1/2 and this time it's a girl. All of the stuff i had for him is expired or already given/thrown away and my step mom wanted to throw me a party. Its going to be small, about 25 people, and like everyone is saying, every baby should be celebrated.

Same here. My son will be 6 next month and I am due with a girl in January. My shower is this weekend and I am VERY excited!

Re: Shower for #2?

I think it's fine, especially for your situation with a large age gap & your dh's first child. I bet most people wouldn't think anything of it. If somebody has a problem with it, too bad, they don't have to come.

Shower for #2?

One of my brothers and I are 12 and a half months apart, so my mom did not have a shower when she was pregnant with him. But when she had my second brother the boys were 6 years apart and I remember both sides of our family threw her showers. I think it's fine.
