Shower opinion question
I went to a shower this weekend and it was held at the mommy-to-be's house. I thought it was very nicely done and a great day all together. However I heard some people commenting on how it should have done at a restaurant and/or at the very least not at her house.
I'm sure she had reason for having it at her own house (although it was hosted by her mom and friends) and I didn't see the big deal.
What are you opinions on having a shower at a house vs. a restaurant? and does it matter that its the mommy-to-be's house vs. a friend or relative?
Just curious.

Re: Shower opinion question
I don't mind a house shower..I actually enjoy them and threw my close friend a house shower because there was only a guest list of 10 or so. However, unless the mom is on bed rest I would not want the shower held at the mom-t-bes home. But you said that the mom hosted so that is different than throwing your own shower, of course.

Re: Shower opinion question
I think house showers are nice. sometimes they arent as rushed feeling as showers at a resterant. as long as the mommy to be isnt throwing her own shower at her house - its fine :)

Re: Shower opinion question
I have been to both and am partial to the showers in the home. They seem so much more personable and comfortable. The restaurant ones were very nice too.. thats just my personal opinion. I think it should be held anywhere where there is the most room or where the guests would be more comfortable.. I dont see why it cant be at the mom to be's house ( as long as shes not hosting it and running around)

Re: Shower opinion question
I love home showers. I hate being confined to a seat for 4 plus hours. Usually home ones you can migle in the kitchen or in the backyard.

Re: Shower opinion question
A friend of mine was thrown a shower at her house. Not what I would think is the best idea. I don't think she was too happy because no one can clean up your house like you can so she was left to do a lot of work. Someone else's house is fine. However, I am all about the restaurant thing lately for the convenience.

Re: Shower opinion question
this is only my opinion, and it could come from laziness on my part, but I do not like parties done at peoples homes. They are a lot of work, and I think having it out is better. Again I wouldnt have at my house because I am lazy and do not want to clean up. I have been to showers both ways and prefer them out.

I agree. Mine was in the summer at my mom's backyard. It was great and so laid-back. I also like restaurant ones too, so basically I just like baby showers!

I agree...wherever there is the most room and space for people to be comfortable. I wouldn't give it a second thought if it was as the mommy-to-be's house. Who knows what arrangements the hosts have as far as clean-up...maybe they are staying after to take care of it...or maybe they hired someone to do it, none of my business.

Re: Shower opinion question
Thanks ladies. I guess I should of said that the her DH had cleaning people come before and after and her mom and friends hired a cater and bartender so nobody was really running around doing anything and the mommy didn't have to clean before or after.

I love home showers. In this case, its especially perfect since no one had to clean or work during the party.

Re: Shower opinion question
We had my shower at my house. Our (DH and I) intentions were to keep it casual and laid back, plus we were going to have kids and the husbands there as well. At the last minute my DH had to travel to Asia and miss the shower, so most of the men didn't come (understandably so), nor were there any children (they stayed home with the dads.)
DH made things easy for me: *hired a cleaning crew for the whole house *made sure the landscapers had the yard in shape (lawn cut, hedges trimmed, beds turned, etc.) *rented a 20X30 tent, tables and chairs and made sure they set it up before he left *took care of the fluids (soda, beer, wine, water, etc.)
My mom and MIL had it catered and hired someone to take care of all the cleaning during and after the party.
It went over pretty well, but in the long run it probably cost more than if we had had it at a restaurant.

Did you post pictures of this? Sounds beautiful!!!!
The part about being more expensive, doesn't really surprise me!

Re: Shower opinion question
good timing for this one - I asked my mom if we could please have it at my house, we have the outdoor space for it and she lives in FL, so alot of things can be done from there to plan it - she asked me to ge a couple of menus and that was it. I wanted it to be layed back, my Bridal shower was very elaborate at a country club and I know it cost alot of $$ that my family just doesn't have. So I thought this would be more convienant and no one has to rush or get there plates pulled out from them while eating and we don't have to watch the clock, also if someone couldn't make it on time, they won't feel uncomfortable showing up later.
It never crossed my mind though, that some guests wouldn't like the idea - now you all have me worried !

You can't worry about it Karen. Where I live, it's very uncommon for people to have showers in restaurants or halls, but that wouldn't stop me if that is what I wanted. It's your shower, if people don't like it, that's too bad.
