Shower question-paying&multicultural question

Who pays for the shower? One person or split amongst both sides?
Also, (from your experience) if the couple is from 2 different cultures, do you suggest 1 shower or 2 separate showers?

Re: Shower question-paying&multicultural question

I think it's always nicer to have one shared shower for both families if it is geographically possible. To me it's a time for the families to come together and share the next generation.

As for who pays, I think that varies. My mom will be paying, but my MIL hosted my wedding shower.

ETA: Unless one side is Jewish, because if I remember correctly from my Jewish friends, they often don't have showers.

My mom paid for my bridal shower, but for the baby shower my mom and my MIL paid for it together.

my shower will be my mom & mil... because when my sister got PG her mil called up my mom to split it.....

usually the shower is combined... i agree with the other poster thought- jewish tradition is not to have a shower for superstition reasons

Re: Shower question-paying&multicultural question

i'm having two showers but that's because the in-laws are all in texas and my family is all here. it was just too much money for all of htem to fly up - especially since we were down there for a week anyway.

if the whole family was here, we would've had a combined shower.

I would say 1 shower unless one family doesn't beleive in them or something. My dad paid for my baby shower.

Re: Shower question-paying&multicultural question

I had one shower and my mom and stepmother paid for it. My husband's immediate family is in MA and the rest are all over. Only his mother and one sister came to it. They did not contribute nor offer to. (same as my bridal shower)

My mom paid for it. My MIL initially said she wanted to pay half and even went with my mom to book the restaurant, but then she kind of backtracked and my mom didn't push it. My MIL bought the cake. Chat Icon

If only one side is paying, are they also paying for family members and friends from the other side?

My parents paid for the whole shower- both my side and his. I paid for decorations and favors.
