Showering/bathing in front of your kids, with your kids?

Another site I sometimes read had a thread about bathing in front of your babies....which led to showering w/your toddlers and there were both ends of the spectrum represented on there....

Just curious as to what you ladies think (now that I have some free time )

I guess the discussion started because someone's mom thought it was inappropriate for her son in law to bath the baby girl (even though she was still an infant )

Thoughts?

That's a hard one... obviously in the begining the baby is too small and I see myself keeping the baby outside the bathroom while I shower in a bouncy seat or something. Me or DH probably won't be showering or bathing with DC b/c I never did... I would bath and shower siblings together though.

there is a thing i ICU they like called Kangaroo Care- which is your bare chest skin and your baby bare chest in a diaper...

that i understand because moms do breast feed- but it just seems weird being bottomless in front of baby

I don't think my parents ever bathed with us, but I have seen my mom in the bathtub naked before as a kid, not a big deal IMO. She was taking a bath and I would just walk in there lol.

My father stopped bathing us around when we were potty trained and I think it is the last time he saw me with no clothes on , I was 2 1/2 or 3.

I don't think I would bathe with my child even as an infant . I don't see anything wrong with it, but its not something I see myself doing .

people are so hung up on sexuality and nudity

My dh bathes with my dd sometimes and she is 2

I think I would do it. I showered with my mom, probably until I was about 6. Not all the time but if we were coming back from the beach and my head was filled with sand she would have to help me anyway...

I don't think I would do it that long, but definiately as a baby. I don't see my DH feeling comfortable with that, though...

ETA: I don't think he would be comfortable bathing with the baby himself- not me doing it.

I would up to a point. When I was little sometimes we would take a shower with my mom out of interest of time! But probably only until 4 or so.

we do it all the time. It's makes life so much easier. In the future it will end but for now it completely fine for us.

I don't see it as a big deal. IMHO

I don't think I ever did with my parents but I wouldn't think twice doing it with mine. (Although I do think boy showers with daddy, girl showers with mommy)

Its not our cup of tea but to each their own.

chances are Ill be bathing DC 99% of the time. DH and I will shower when either DC is asleep and/or someone is here to watch them.

I don't see a big deal, but I don't because I don't like baths and DC don't like showers....

We didn't/don't with Dd and won't with the next one either.

I see nothing wrong with it, it's just not for us.

I'm not sure about it. My DH showers with the dog and she's jumped in the jacuzzi tub with me. Is that wrong?

I would not bathe toddlers of the opposite sex together... (infants yes, but not toddlers)

My kids will be 1 year apart and of the opposite sex and DH and i already discussed that bathing and potty training of the boy falls on him, and of the girl on me.

I would / could shower in front of DD but i dont, necessity never arised, but i do change in front of her etc. I do think it is important for a girl to see that mommy has the same body, just as it is for a boy to see that daddy has the same stuff. So that when they grow up they dont feel weird about their private parts etc. And i also think i want them to learn from a young age that boys and girls are different and that you keep your private parts private type of deal.

I wouldnt have any issue showering with my toddler after the pool/ etc, like if there was a need for it, but i think a 6 year old should shower alone already. I want my kids to develop a sence of privacy for their body , i totally dont want to deal with "show me yours, ill show you mine" type of stuff in school.

Before having my DS I would have said that I wouldn't have showered with him - just because showers are MY time.

Once he turned 18 months and was able to stand up on his own in the shower, it became so much easier to shower at the same time. He plays with his toys the entire time while I am taking my full on shower. Once I am done I was him down and we are out. I don't even think he notices I'm in there with him (unless he is trying to shove me out of the way to get under the water )

It just makes our daily routine soooo much easier!

I see nothing wrong with it. I shower with my 2 year old son a few times a week. It makes it much easier and to me he's still a baby. Probably by 4 I would stop though.

Yes we do , I see nothing wrong with it. Me and DH get changed, bathe and shower with and or in front of our Son. I think once he approaches say 7-8 yrs old we might curtail it a bit, or at least me...Him seeing DH I have no issues with ever, since they are the same sex kwim?
