Sick and pregnant - im desperate - ladies please help!!!!

I feel awful!!!
Started having symptoms last week and feeling congested - thought it would pass - well Friday night completely lost my voice - and still don't have it back - its now Tuesday night. I can't breathe - totally congested, heavy mucus (sorry for TMI), and lots of dry coughs at night. I finally feel asleep at 1 am last night and tonight looks like one of those nights.

I went to the doctor on Tuesday and he wouldn't prescribe me antibotics till Friday - if said if it continues I should go back end of the week and look into another option. He told me Robistesuum DM and Sufaded as well as Tylenol. I went to the pharmacy and she suggested I don't take anything - and was alarmed that the doctor actually suggested sudafed b/c its known to raise mom and babies heartrate. So - that was out of the question! Because i feel so awful i decided to take Robitessum 2x a day - but haven't had any improvements.

Is this cold ever going to go away??? Ladies any tips? I can't possibly believe that with all the technology and studies we have to suffer like this! Plus im trying to take care of a 15 month old and she is wearing me out!

Hugs to all those that are sick too and those that know what im talking about - im desperate for some advice!!!

i'm sorry you're feeling so bad. try doing a search on here for Sudafed - i think if its the regular one its ok. maybe you can just take a 1/2 dose. Drink ALOT of hot liquids with lemon too - wish i could help more

Go get yourself a Neti pot!! It was on Oprah a month or two ago. I swear, this invention is heaven-sent!! I was miserable for days, finally got off my butt and got one - I am sleeping so much better!! It totally clears you out - and the more you use it, the better it works. It's just warm water and salt - so totally, totally safe.

I'm also having sinus stuff right now and the only thing that gives me some relief is Simply Saline and sleeping with a humidifier.

Like someone said up post, I have heard that the weakest Sudafed is ok. Also, Benadryl is ok.

I was terribly sick once during pregnancy & its the worst feeling ever. I feel for you

As the others said....lots of hot tea; rest & you can do Sudafed or Benedryl, but I tried to go w/o these...I used (I think they are called) Shower Soothers & afterwards you feel like you can breathe again.

I hate to wine - but I feel like im never going to get better!!!

I guess everyone was right when it may take up to 2 weeks to start feeling better when pregnant - almost one week down

i'm sorry you are sick..i was sick for a while too..it lasted a lot longer than if i wasn't pg.

oh man I feel for you - I'm finally over whatever I had - and it does take a lot to get through it.


LOTS of fluids! that will keep all of your mucus lining hydrated - which is what you want. Keep checking your urine to make sure it's on the light side.

tylenol (and I took tylenol PM - which is just tylenol and benedryl - at bedtime to get asleep. I took one before I went to sleep and one more if I woke up in the middle of the night)

rubitussin DM is good for nighttime and I would suck on halls all day long (my OB OKed them)

Rest - this is the hardest part when you have a little one. I had DS sleep over ILs house one night just to get some well needed rest.

When I met with my OBGYN, she referred me to my GP. I had the starting of Bronchitis and I started taking Zythromax and I feel so much better!!!! I actually got 5 hours of sleep last night! I have horrible asthma and need to watch out for that as well!

Normally, I would try to ride it out, but I really think that I would have been stressing the babies out even more if I didn't take anything at all! I was such as mess. I missed 3 days of work and I don't EVER miss work!!! So, you know I am sick!
