Sick or teething?

DS was pulling at his ear a lot today and I'm not sure if he may have an ear infection or is teething. He isn't super cranky and doesn't have a fever. He has been waking up a lot at night crying that turns into screaming.
He sucks on his hands, drools a lot and trys to eat my hand when its near his mouth. He has been doing all of these things for a while though.

Another weird thing he has been doing the last 2 days is he will look like he is pooping but nothing comes out. He will turn all red and grunt, but no poop. It is really weird.

My DD is doing the same with the ear pulling. I attributed it to teething. She hasn't had any fever either. I can also see the teeth under the gums.

ds always pulls on his ear when massively teething.. i think it is more due to the amount of drool that is in his system..... the poop thing sounds like he may be alittle backed up.... i know ds was doing all the noises of poop without any appearance all day yesterday.... and today i am on poop diaper #4
