Sidewalk Repair?

Was just wondering who is responsible for the damage to your sidewalk or street? Is it the homeowner’s responsibility? If you had to repair - what’s it cost?

Re: Sidewalk Repair?

When I lived in Amityville I was responsible unless it was the towns doing. Ex, we had a tree that the town planted that broke up our sidewalk so they paid for the repairs.

Re: Sidewalk Repair?

Generally the home owner is and if the town has to step in to repair it for you (unless the town did the damage) they will send you a bill.

Re: Sidewalk Repair?

We live in Town of Smithtown and they are responsible for the sidewalk and driveway aprons. We had ours replaced a few years ago.

I think the only exception is if a tree is on your property and causes the sidwalk to lift. Then it may be the HO responsibility. But always ask the town to come take a look first
