I also don't think she is necessarily standing up for him. She's by his side..the news just broke..her head is swimming. She doesn't know her azz from her elbow yet or what she wants to do.
We can't possibly put ourselves in that spot. Sure we say, we would leave him, kick him to the curb and just let him be there by himself. But obviously, she loves him. He is the father to their daughters.
She has to process the info and decide what she is going to do.
She is standing there because it was the right thing to do for the public, but when the dust clears, she will make the decisions for the rest of her life and her family.
McGreevey's wife did just that.

i was saying this yesterday, i saw her standing next to him. I was like "what is wrong with these woman".. then i thought about it, she probable doesnt care, she wants the money and probable doesnt have a true marriage, its just out of convience. Not saying this is true, jmo.
They are both from big money, so I don't think it's for the money.
I'd like to think I wouldn't be standing next to DH if that was me, but who knows what I'd do when faced with it. Especially if I'd only heard about it an hour before and was trying to process it all while the PR people were trying to salvage DH's career and figure out what to say in his statement.
Oh i didnt know she was from money. Then i have no clue why is standing by his side, maybe still in denial even with the tape, and is doing it b/c she thinks its best b/c of the children.
If i was her, i would have left him. end of story.

Re: Silda Standing by Spitzer
DH noticed a visible look of disgust as he got to the podium, she probably feels the need to stand by him at least at first. It not only in the political world the right thing to do but it also helps to save a bit of face IMO
Who knows we'll have to wait and see

I agree with this.
Lord only knows what has been happening. Not only is she dealing with infidelity, but she is also dealing with the prospect of her husband being INDICTED on FEDERAL charges.
this has HUGE implications that goes way beyond the whole "cheating is terrible" feelings. The father of her girls also has to look his OWN DAUGHTERS in the face.
I don't think her standing there says anything to those girls that cheating is right. Her family is in an uproar like NO OTHER. NONE of us here can imagine what is going on.
I told my dh yesterday...it's one thing to cheat and have it be a private matter. but when millions of people are now aware...and "get" to sit in judgment as to the who/what/when/where/why and how...it's got to be pain MAGNIFIED tenfold.
I don't think we need to look at ANY of these woman as a blueprint for what to do. Standing up there doesn't make it right....at least I don't see it as any type of endorsement of the behavior.
When I saw her up there, I saw a crushed woman trying to do what she thought was right under the circumstances. Keeping her backbone up for the public. for her daughters. showing her girls that it takes a stronger woman to stand up than to cower. trying to salvage SOME of the good left in her family by not turning this into an even bigger scandal.
Spitzer made mistake that approximately 50% of the population makes. His position only makes it WORSE. It's really an awful and FRIGHTENING time for their family right now.
Yes it is HIS mistake. but his whole family is paying for it.
why can't we let THEM hash it out, instead of condemning this woman when in reality NONE of us know what went on BEFORE he stepped on stage or AFTER.
I agree 100%!!!!!

Re: Silda Standing by Spitzer
It's so easy to say what we "would NEVER do" when we arent put in that position. I think it takes a STRONGER woman to stand there with her head up,
facing the public with her dignity in tact, than to "not show up".
She did nothing wrong-so why SHOULDnt she stand there.
And she needs to continue to be a good role model to his 3 daughters. No need to slap him in public....one of them needs to show some class!

Re: Silda Standing by Spitzer
I am totally disgusted by the way she stood by him.
It’s a reason I didn’t vote for Hillary too. I agree with PP who said Hillary stood by Bill to further her own political aspirations. Which is why I call her Hill-a-whore – Sold her self for her position, what is a better description than a whore?
I think standing by a man who commits such a heinous social, marital crime is the same as supporting the crime itself.
If you can’t stand up for what’s right within your own home, how can you believe I’d trust you to make decisions for my family and those of my children? No thank you.
As far as I’m concerned you’ve lost your ranking as a woman and been downgraded to a peon. You are not a role model I want my sister or anyone looking up to. You’re an example of what NOT to be.
If the circumstances had been reversed do you think he’d be there by her side? Do you think they’d allow that to go public or viciously deny it? It’s a sex bias thing. It’s not necessarily ok that a man cheat/use a prostitute but at least he can apologize before the scandal begins a woman on the other hand caught doing the same is a slut.
Lastly… here’s a question. Can you support Hillary and still be disgusted in Mrs. Spitzer’s weakness? Assuming of course she stays with this ba$tard after the dust settles.

Re: Silda Standing by Spitzer
When you become a politician's wife, you enter into a contract of sorts. Most wives don't work (other than being X's wife). They lead a fairly luxurious life. But in exchange for that, they have to be the dutiful wife. They have to stay out of trouble and when their DH gets into trouble, they stand by him. That way, he has some hope of recovering politically. (If his own wife won't stand by him, why should his constiguents?). Its just "part of the bargain" for politician's wives.
ETA: Not to mention, what about people who want to work on their marriage, for whatever their reasons are. Does that make them weak?

I'm intrigued by this. can you explain further, how this makes a woman a "peon" in your book?

Yikes! That's a little harsh. She's no longer a woman since she stood next to her DH who cheated during a public appearance? So what is Mrs. McGreevy?
So any woman who stays with a man who cheats and works on their marriage loses their "ranking as a woman and has been downgraded to a person". Wow. There are a lot of women on here who personally have, or had family members try to work on their marriage after an infedility. Are they no longer women too?
And as far as a role model- heck, almost every woman in the public eye (entertainers, movie stars, etc...) are not my role models. So what? Not every famous woman can be a Madeline Albright or a Ruth Bader Ginsberg. So what. Just because their not your role model they are no longer women, but peons?

and truth be told, we have NO IDEA what happened in their personal lives.
it is just by happenstance that we even found out about Spitzer. Like I told dh, he was a dolphin that got caught in a tuna net.
has anyone ever heard of a woman named Jackie Kennedy or maybe an Eleanor Roosevelt.
please.

Re: Silda Standing by Spitzer
I don't think she will stay by his side much longer. She was probably pressured by her DH's staff and her head was probably still reeling. Also wouldn't be surprised if at the time she hadn't been made fully aware of what was going on.
Personally, I would NOT stand up there with him - it's demeaning and degrading. That's why my ex is an ex.

Re: Silda Standing by Spitzer
OK I have to say - He is the GOVENOR of NY! And went around as a holy roller, better-than-you politician - he wants to make NY moral again...
So, if nothing else he was REALLY REALLY STUPID to get involved in this situation in the first place.
I am always amazed when these big powerful politicians put their libidos before all else, jeapordizing their positions. Um, can't you wait until you are out of office and the public eye? Of COURSE you are open to public scrutiny, and your policital enemies will ALWAYS be looking for ways to trip you up.
Duh!!!

Re: Silda Standing by Spitzer
I just think she is an a$$ for 'standing by her man' especially with 3 daughters, however, none of us knows what goes on behind closed doors. I do think Hillary is an A$$ also and so will Silda be if she STAYS! Neither being very good role models regardinging relationships for their daughters!
ETS: I would not have been up there!

because she's strong enough to support someone she loves?
THAT makes HER a 'peon?'
