Silly Question
Do any of you ever worry about the information you give out on this website? Since I've met a bunch of you at the GTGs, I'm pretty sure you're not going to snatch my kid - but there are a lot of people on here who don't post.
After reading Oprah's website on how the 13 year old got into an internet porn ring and rethinking all of my posts where I've mentioned daycares, posted pictures of my kids, etc.
I guess I have a lot of deleting to do?

Re: Silly Question
Sometimes I worry about posting pics of Kevin but other than that I'm not really too worried.
I don't really post on thread about "Where did you go to H.S." and threads like that but since so much of our personal data is computerized nowadays, if someone really wanted to get your info, they probably could.
Scary!

Re: Silly Question
Yes, I do. Which is why I won't reveal my name (last name really) or my kids names or pictures. I've heard such horror stories and if it were just me, I'd deal with it, but I cannot do that to my kids. I often feel bad because I feel like I *know* alot of you through your posts, but in reality, this is a public board, and people can just be reading and do not have to have an account to just read so I feel very skeptical about putting my personal information out there

Re: Silly Question
I don't consider myself a paranoid person but I have to say the Oprah thing was enough to get me to wonder about the number of views on posts.

Re: Silly Question
Yes I worry about it and I try to censor myself with certain things. Like MM said, I don't post on certain threads like where you went to HS, I don't give out my year of birth, etc.
Little by little I've gotten more and more comfortable especially since I've met a few of the girls on this site. But I always think about what I'm posting.
As for posting pictures of my son, that I'm not too worried about. I could be wrong but I feel that at least if you don't make a complete connection to yourself, it makes it harder for someone to track you down. So, I've gone back and deleted pictures of myself that I've posted. But in a way it doesn't matter because if someone was really determined to do you harm, there are sooo many ways for them to find out lots of personal information about you.

Re: Silly Question
I try to be careful about what I post. I also try to be vague enough that no one could find me if they really tried to piece things together.

Re: Silly Question
I worry at times, but try not to get too crazy. I try not to post too many pictures and I don't ever use my last name. I've said what town I live in in the past, but have been trying to be good about not saying that kind of stuff.
The thing that bothers me more to be honest are the national photo contest like Regis & Kelly. They announce your kids first & last name, town & state, which REALLY freaks me out. I refused to enter her, which totally pi$$ed my MIL off, but I don't care. We are the only people in the phone book in my town with our last name, and it's not worth $3k and a magazine cover to me. JMO. I even sent them an email telling them that they shouldn't use last names, there are too many unregistered sex offenders out there.
