silly question, I'm sure

Can you get pregnant if you have sex any other week but the week you are supposed to?

edited to clarify.....I read everywhere that you can find out what is the best time to BD to get pregnant.....my question is if you BD any other day than those days suggested ... can you get pregnant....sorry if its a dumb question.

Re: silly question, I'm sure

From what I have read -- sperm can live up to 5 days in fertile quality cervical mucus. So you can get pregnant from BDing up to 5 days before you ovulate. I *think* the egg lives for 24 hours, so you can get pregnant from BDing within 24 hours after ovulation. So, if you have fertile quality CM, there are about 5-6 days a month you can get pregnant. You really want to time BDing as close to ovulation as possible.

ETA: Technically, there is only 1 day a month you can get pregnant -- the day you ovluate -- but since sperm can live for a few days, the egg can be fertilzed from BDing a few days before ovulation.

Re: silly question, I'm sure

You can only get PG when you ovulate. If there isn't an egg to fertilize, there's no PG. But you can BD a few days before you ovulate and a few days after since spermies live for a while and the egg doesn't drop right away.

It's amazing how "simple" it is when you don't think about it, but how complicated it really is.

Yes it is! I would normally just BD when i want to and whatever happens happens...but my doctor told me my LH level was high so there might be a chance I have PCOS....so she said since I get my normal periods not to worry but now that I know this info I feel like what if one day I stop getting my period and I lose my chance.
