Since DS has egg allergy, we are not allowed to give him flu shots -
Anyone else going through this?
For a while it wasn't a big deal because we weren't going to give him the flu shots anyway.
But DH has quite a few people in his office who has come in very close contact with others that have swine flu.
We saw Ryan's allergist today and he said since he has a pretty severe egg white allergy he cannot have either the H1N1 flu shot or regular flu shot.
Now I feel frustrated because we can't help prevent the flu's even if we wanted to.

My friend's dd has a severe egg allergy so she can't get them either. She worries about it a little but tries not to think about it too much since she can't do anything about it anyway.

make sure he washes his hands constantly or wipe it for him. I have never gotten the flu shot and I have only gotten the flu once in my life. And I work with preschool kids.

My dd has an egg allergy as well and can not get the flu shot, however we were never going to give it to her to begin with. I am really not worried about it and neither is her allergist or pediatrician. We practice good habits with washing hands and using sanitizers.

How severe is the allergy? My DS is allergic to eggs and got the shot at the allergist. They split it in half and we went twice to get each dose.

We can't either b/c of DS's egg allergy, it has gotten milder, but we are still not allowed to give it. Me and my DH get it to protect him as much as we can (so we dont bring it home to him)

Re: Since DS has egg allergy, we are not allowed to give him flu shots -
we are in the same situation.
We weren't going to give DS either flu shot anyway.... but for the past month or so I have been definitely questioning that decision. I am a nervous wreck about H1N1.
SO, in a way, I'm kind of glad that he just can't get the shots - so I don't have to make the decision!!!
But I am being very careful. If friends or famly are sick, we don't see them. As soon as we get in the car from being out anywhere, I wipe our hands with an alcohol wipe (not sure if that helps, but I guess it can't hurt). I wash our hands frequently. Ds is only 19 months old, but I am tryign to encourage him to keep toys, hands, etc out of his mouth.

I think it depends on the allergist. Our allergist gives the flu shot to kids with egg allergies unless he knows for sure that it is an anaphylactic allergy. Anyway, yes I would be nervous not having the flu shot. We are not giving H1N1 and I am a bit scared.

Re: Since DS has egg allergy, we are not allowed to give him flu shots -
We are still trying to determine the severity of his egg white allergy. Apparently he has been on the cusp of severe with 2 tests (scratch test and an old form of the blood work test).
We are now taking him for a newer type of blood work allergy test which will take 2 weeks to get the results.
Once we have those results hopefully we can determine if administering the flu shot is safe. By then it will probably be too late anyway.
DH wants to not go on any playdates and stay away from public, but how do you do that when you are a full time SAHM with a 16 month old?
